Works like it’s supposed to
I have been curious about these for quite a while. But I have been pretty happy with regular ol’ bore snakes...However, it’s always a struggle getting the “rope” started down a rifle barrel when it’s on a vice block. I was hoping it would be easier with this tool, since the cable is more ridged. And it has been, it’s much easier to get this started down the barrel. However, there was a sharp “barb” on the round weight at the end of the cable I had to dremel off...as I was worried it would scratch my barrel if I didn’t remove it.Other than that, the quality seems fine. The brush does seems to bend a bit depending on which way you coil the cable, since this causes tension that pulls on the end of the brush....but it’s nothing I’m concerned about and is barely noticeable. For now, I’m happy and will keep using this tool because of its convenience and simplicity, but if you already have a bore-snake, I wouldn’t worry about “upgrading”*******************************I rely heavily on reviews when I make purchases so I put some time into reviewing everything I buy on Amazon for personal or business use so I can help other people considering that item. Yeah...no.
So I saw the picture, and thought what a good idea. It wraps up the bore snake in a handy package. Looks great doesn't it. I think I'll take the other bore snake out of my cart and buy this one instead. What could go wrong....This thing is mainly a plastic (feeling) lightweight wire with a ball on one end and the short, SHORT bore snake-ish (emphasis on ISH) thing on the other end with no brush part at all. It was only cloth, unless of course the "brush" part was supposed to be what was actually the badly burnt together part of the cloth. This was supposed to be for 22 rimfire. I pulled it through ONCE and regretted it. I honestly thought it was going to break off in the barrel. I promptly wrapped it back up and put it in file 13. The only reason I did not give it a single star is because it is a really good concept. If they had only created one with more bore snake and less flimsy lightweight plastic-wire-thingy with a metal connector, it would be good. Also, DON'T put a piece of metal as a connector between the 2 that is the same size as the bore!!!!!! Also, but something other than cloth that is burnt on one end. I mean...really?!!? Soooo, would I buy one again? Yeah...no.

Works well if you have no muzzle device
My .308 AR-10 and my .300 BLK AR-15 both have a standard A2 bird cage. The ball at the end of the stiff section of cord gets caught in the bird cage and it is extremely difficult to get it to pass through. In 10 or so attempts I only got it through twice. This was very frustrating. This is due to the permanent curvature of the stiff section, it does not drop straight down the bore. I even tried to straighten it but have extremely limited success. I also have a 9mm carbine that I thought I could use the 9mm kit to clean. Nope. The stiff section of cord on the 9mm is sized specifically for pistols, not long enough for the 16" barrel. I'll keep these but likely won't be buying any more of this brand.

Keeps the Snake Clean and Neat
What a well thought out product! The bore snake has been popular for some time, now, but this turns it into a complete kit. The snake stays in its container until needed. The container serves to keep it clean as well as a hand-saving device with which to use the snake. This is going on the Christmas list for all the guys and in all the calibers. I just love how compact it is - so much easier than stowing the snake in the thin plastic box they are sold in, generally. I'll upgrade all the current snakes and then stow the old ones in emergency bags. Very pleased, indeed.

Not for a 9mm
Same as other buyers, I bought the Bore Boss (9mm - .357/.38) MADE IN CHINA, to use on my two 9mm Walther semi-auto pistols.Where the mop attaches to the brush, the mop is folded over & has a stiff, melted, sharp, nylon edge. This folded and protruding edge creates a sticking point that is much too large for the 9mm barrel , impossible to get started and pull through it. I won't try to yank it through the barrel for fear of damaging it.Don't buy this for a 9mm which is a standard size having nothing to do with your brand of gun. Maybe there are a bunch of defective units and some will work but you're taking an annoying risk.I bought this 5 weeks before my new gun was delivered so I would be ready to use it - so now I'm stuck with a piece of junk and need to find another. If Real Avid believes in their products, they would would contact me and others to provide a replacement unit like other customer-oriented product vendors do.

I wanted to like this. I really did
I wanted to like this. I really did. But after taking it out and playing with it, having used it to clean a 12g it just doesn't stack up to other products I have at home. It'll probably go on the shelf. The case:It's a novel idea. Great in theory, not great in execution. The brush bristles got flattened on one side after the 3rd time I put it back in the case and the wire is already bent. the bristles on the brush also are already bent pretty bad. It's also HUGE! To have more than one or two of these in the gear back takes up a significant amount of space! I did like the "handle" aspect but I could only fit two fingers in and kept losing my grip. Like the rubber flip over sides though. The snake:Way shorter than I'm used to. Snake measures less than half of a boresnake that I'm used to. Thick enough to fill up the barrel but the material was hot melted at the tip causing it to be a bit rough.Overall it did the job but I like the extra length of a regular boresnake that I can just wrap up and tuck in a range bag pouch and not lose a ton of space. Nice idea with the case, just needs to be better executed.
