Amazing Read
This was my first time reading Robert Good and he has fast become a regular author on my list now and I can't wait to read his next book.He writes the thriller\crime fiction really well. The characters had real depth and you connected to each one. It's written so well there is no guessing the truth early and you're really taken along for the journey!Gold doesn't shy away from the darkness that is in everyday life and it's raw and gritty.Recommend.

Twelve S Gold
Very good read, pacy, many twists, good characters. A crime thriller that would be good material for TV or film. Looking forward to reading the next one.

Buy the series
Excellent read but should read in order for a gripping read

Disappointing...
I found this tale interesting at first, but then found the plot to be a little tedious, with an incredibly long list of possible suspects.

Excellent!!!!!! Best binge-read, not a put-down and come-back-to later book
Best to binge read - it’s very complex with a lot of characters that at first seem unrelated. There’s a lot of mystery and secrets but When you’ve finished it - it all slots into place. Excellent!!It’s a really good read with a pacy easy-to-read writing style and it’s gripping - you really do want to find out what happened all those years ago. It has twists where you’re not sure whose telling the truth, who’s good and who’s bad….Not 5* because - Like a lot of reviewers commented - there are a lot of characters, and as the story is linked to events years earlier, it can be confusing. At the beginning I was totally confused with so many “apparently unrelated” characters. I jotted down names and which characters were associated with who and found it necessary to refer back, throughout the book. I didn’t have time to read the book quickly , so for me this “referring” was a bit of a pain- but if you have time to binge read it quickly then its probably easier to keep on track.

Absolutely riveting
This isn’t the sort of book I would normally rush to read, however the write-up sounded very interesting and I decided to take a chance. I am so pleased that I did because it was absolutely riveting from start to finish. It was a complex read, and required a lot of concentration to keep track of who was who, and all the threads that unravelled and then slowly started to converge. All the way through there were hints as to what might be going on, however very often within the next paragraph these hints proved to be false leads and we were lead down other avenues. In fact, there were so many twists and turns, at times it was hard to keep up. Ben Harper is a complicated character who is single minded and determined to get to the bottom of any mystery that might come his way – in fact a typical journalist who has to get his teeth well and truly into a story. The plot was very interesting and kept me thinking all the way through the novel, which is something that I find very important. The main point of the story was to do with people keeping secrets and it was fascinating how they were gradually untangled, making sense of the past and showing exactly how damaging secrets can be if they are kept for the wrong reasons. The ending was complete closure with no lose ends, again something that I often find very important. I really loved this novel and am looking forward to getting stuck into the next of Robert Gold’s books as I think he is an extremely good author and certainly makes reading his stories worthwhile.

Complex and gripping
As a child, Ben Harper's older brother and his best friend were brutally murdered by two teenage girls. Now, as a journalist, Ben's boss wants him to revisit another traumatic event on its tenth anniversary and, understandable, he reluctant. However secrets are about to be uncovered!Set largely in a small town, this is a complex, multi-layered story with a high number of characters, all of whom seem to be connected in a small way and has so many plot twists and surprises, the reader, along with Ben, is never quite sure where the truth lies and when more shocks are to be revealed. Told mainly from Ben's viewpoint, you can feel his need for the truth and his frustration throughout, especially when confronting some of the more unlikeable (an understatement in one case!) characters. Very in-depth but never confusing, it's a cracking read of secrets, lies and deception over many years and I'll look forward to the next in the series.

Typing errors or missing words
I love the book, but as I was reading I found missing words causing sentences to not make sense. Pg19 Chapter 2“ ‘I don’t think it would help me,’ I say, already knowing that tomorrow morning I’m going regret those two large shots of Glenmorangie.“Pg 34 Chapter 5Foolishly, I then I said I needed a drink to calm me down.’Pg 155/156 Chapter 32I closed down the conversation, told her didn’t want to hear it.’These are the things I’ve found so far, other than this storyline very intriguing

Lettura piacevole e coinvolgente
Abbastanza semplice da leggere in lingua originale. Trama fitta, intricata e accattivante. Finale anche tranne che per l'ultima azione. Nel complesso una bella lettura

A bit of Gold, not only in name
In Twelve Secrets, Robert Gold brings 12 different perspectives together. He does that by employing different styles in the different viewpoints. Some of them might feel slow, sometimes even sluggish. But these should simply be regarded as the slow movements of a musical piece. They don't diminish the value of the book as a whole, and Twelve Secrets is certainly a bit of fresh air in the crime landscape. Oh, and Ben Harper is an absolutely lovable chap. I can't wait to meet him in the next installment.

Page-turner and shocking

potential wasted to chase cheap shock value
This book is a decent commute read - the chapters are very short, so there's always a good place to stop. But I didn't particularly enjoy my read. I disliked the main narrator, Ben, especially for how he treated the character Dani Cash (she didn't even get an apology from him...). Most other perspective characters were decently placed to offer varied insight on the unfolding narrative. This book would have gotten three stars from me, if not for a) the out of nowhere intimate assault of a character on page, for what felt like nothing but shock value; and b) the ending - not the reveal, that was okay, but the stabbing of a certain character, which, once again, served nothing but to attempt to make the ending feel more scandalous and 'shocking'. I was underwhelmed by a story which had spend pages upon pages building up characters, only to go for theatrical overacting at the end.

avvincente
Consigliato.
