Premium performance at an affordable price. Better than AC Fiber.
I was looking for a replacement for American Crew: Classic Fiber. I had used the AC Fiber for a few years now and it does exactly what I want it to: good hold, matte finish, almost a "beach hair" feel. I'm asian so my hair normally shoots straight like a porcupine. Fiber gave me the ability to add volume to my hair and make it look less... combed and straight (generally less asian).Anyway, I like that product a lot and still do. But I think that TIGI Bed Head Separation Wax works better for what I use it for.I WAS AFRAID THAT "WAX" AUTOMATICALLY MEANT SLICK. I was wrong-- this stuff works JUST LIKE fiber and I would argue better.I use it everyday, about a fingernail's worth (or two, depending on how my hair is acting). I use it throughout my hair to just give it some more volume and hold. I don't straight up spike the whole thing-- I work it through and leave it kind of messy/up.PROS (all of these are in relation to AC Fiber):- Very Tacky. It's not like putting glue in my hair, but it has substantial stickiness to it that I like because I know that it's actually working. When compared to bottom-of-the-line AXE fiber, which goes on smoothly (and rubs out just as quickly), TIGI immediately works in the hair to give it volume and hold.- Long hold. Others have said that this doesn't hold for very long, which I would disagree with. it seems to hold much longer than AC Fiber. Throughout the day, whenever I go to the bathroom, I can run my hands through my hair and readjust things as if I just put the product in my hair. With AC Fiber, my ability to manipulate my hair throughout the day would diminish at around the end of work. With TIGI, the hold keeps through dinner/going out after work. I really appreciate this, so I don't have to apply more. This will obviously vary depending on how much oil your head produces throughout the day.- WASHES EASILY off hands! AC Fiber was horrible to wash off. This stuff, though it feels super sticky at first, actually comes off without having to wipe most of it off with a drying towel. Minor detail, but one less annoyance in the morning goes a long way.- Pop lid AND screw lid. This seems like a silly perk, but it's actually appreciated. TIGI made this with a pop top that also can screw off. Why is this a big deal? Because once I take out a dollop, muck up my hands, I don't necessarily want to get the crap all over the sides of the container. With the pop top I can just close it with the back of my hand. Again, not a huge deal, but definitely appreciated.- Scent. It is subtle and pleasant. Maybe it's because I used it everyday, but AC Fiber had a plastic smell to it that I didn't love. And maybe because this stuff is new to my routine... but I like the way it smells. I like that it's not overwhelming, but that it's not odorless either.CONS:Honestly, none yet that I've found. As I suspected, it works best in dry hair... at least to achieve the look I'm going for. Even a little moisture in your hair makes it more difficult for the wax to fully adhere... but it DOES adhere better even with wet hair than AC Fiber. All in all, great product. Premium performance at an affordable price. I use this probably 6 days out of the week, and if it's anything like the AC Fiber which I used the same amount of, then it will last me about 3-4 months easily. That's not bad, considering what women spend on their hair :)

The best
This stuff is the best. Strong hold without looking greasy. I used to use layrite/suavacito this is better at half the price. Works great

Good hold; leaves a slightly dry and sandy texture
My hair is 1-2 inches, extremely thick and I prefer the spiky look. Over the past year, I have been in search of the "perfect" hair creme/wax which provides the highest hold and a matte look. In short, there are lots of options that function very differently. To date, I have tried American Crew Fiber, D:fi D:sculpt, TIGI matte separation, Moving Rubber Spiky Edge, Moving Rubber Grunge Mat, Jonathan Dirt, Sticky Rice, TRENDStarter matte finishing wax and Eufora Hero. All of these options are priced in the same range (per oz) but each have a unique set of pros and cons. I'm still searching for the silver bullet (for my hair type and style). For TIGI Matter separation wax, here's the breakdown:What's the "actual" hold like? Pretty good. How easy is it to work into the hair? Moderate. This product is thicker and denser than most other products; however, unlike Fiber (with the wet sand feel), this product is still very creamy - thus it's still easy to spread into the hair. How natural does the hair feel throughout the day? Hair quickly develops a thick, slightly-sticky and sandy texture. Is the hold consistent? Yes; however, the sacrifice is that the hair will not feel quite as natural. How much do you need to get a decent hold? An average amount.Does it wash out easily? Not exactly. As the hair becomes harder throughout the day, it becomes slightly more difficult to wash out. To be fair, though, this product is still much easier to wash out than the clay-ish products like Grunge Mat or Molding Clay. How does it smell? Almost no smell with a few subtle floral notes. Please see my other reviews to compare against all of the above products. I personally like this slightly more than Fiber - as the hold strong and it's easy to work into the hair. The only downside is that your hair will start to feel slightly sticky and sandy several hours after application. This can probably be curbed if you use a lesser amount; however, if you have thick hair, be prepared to experience this downside.
