Does it feature an off button for the brush?

Yes. You can use just the suction on hard floors with the brush and switch the brush on for carpeted areas.

How long is the cord?

Dirt Devil says this model has a 20 foot long cord.

Is the cord retractable?

The cord is not retractable. The Dirt Devil manual pdf, from their site, says you must wind the cord around the hooks.

Will this stand up on its own or do you have to prop it against the wall?

Mine stands up on its own and I totally love it...I only use it for my area rugs cuz I have hardwood floors which it also works on...
