I've always used the smaller tips, but these are actually easier to use (more forgiving of not-professional-level piping skills!) and made my cupcakes look bakery-quality. (Watched a couple of videos to get the technique.) Since they do not fit with my coupler, I just used them with a disposable piping bag. Should have purchased long ago!
