Performs As Advertized
The product will perform great on pure thatch, but when trying to remove a heavy lay of creeping charlie other measures and conditions must exist. First my yard should had been treated with a post-emergent herbicide and I couldn't do it this summer because of an injury. Tried a backup strategy this fall with the Brinly DT to remove as much creeping charlie as possible. Yard was soaked with irrigation and two days of heavy rain so the extensive creeping connections to the soil could be overcome as much as possible. It took a myriad of passes of 1.25 acres to remove approximately 70% of the weed. Not perfect results but with loading an 80lb bag of drainage rock on the Brinly DT, and pulling it with my zero turn for 8 hours through muck and mire bodes well for the robust nature of the dethatcher. A very tough product!

Highly effective, rather heavy duty, assembly is fairly easy... a few tips on that.
After assembly and set up this operates flawlessly and can really get out a lot of thatch, moss, etc. It's quite heavy duty and will no doubt last my lifetime as long as I don't abuse it. I have the lawn rake Brinly STS-427LXH 20 Cubic Feet Tow Behind Lawn Sweeper, 42-Inch and got 5 full loads of thatch out of a bit more than 1/2 acre of lawn. The lawn looks amazing, it's easy to use and has held up well.Assembly is much easier than the lawn sweeper ( see my review there ) but it isn't a walk in the park. The instructions are a bit better probably only because it's a much less complex product. A few assembly tips follow. My unit didn't come with carded and identified nuts and bolts, they were simply randomly dumped into to plastic bags. Go through the nuts and bolts and sort and identify them as some of them look close but are slightly different. Having a small 12 volt drill/driver and a nut driver set really helped putting this together. Wear safety glasses and gloves, the rake prongs will often be aimed right at your eyes during assembly and it's easy to bend over into them. As you get to each stage of assembly set your fasteners out in an easy to reach place as at times you'll be upside down and backwards. Don't lose any nuts or bolts...there are no extras! The assembly instructions have you putting the draw bar together piece by piece on the de-thatching unit... don't do that! Assemble the draw bar as a unit and then mount it, it's far far simpler and easier to get all the angles right. After assembly make sure all your bolts are properly tightened and seated as it's easy for one to slip out of register. It works really well, I added three regular sized red bricks to add a little weight and it runs right along digging out piles of dead grass. It's a bit of a bear to put together but nothing like the devil's spawn the leaf sweeper was. It's worth the money.

I like it!
I bought this mainly for raking up moss. We have lots of moss in the PNW and raking up dead moss is time consuming. This dethatcher works great. I put down moss killer and in a few days it was time to rake/dethatch.I did not use added weight, but might in the future.I'm not great with tools but assembly was pretty simple and took 45 minutes. I recommend watch YouTube videos on this exact procedure. There are plenty and it did help.Ater assembly there were 2 large lock washers left over and upon watching the video, he explained that there were no instructions on what to do with the left over lock washers, but we both assumed they were for the wheels. I guessed about how much to tighten the wheel nuts so the wheel will turn and not have the nut unwind. 1st attempt nut came off. 2nd was a little too tight, but the wheel turns somewhat.I was amazed at how it did raking up the dead moss. Extremely time saving and easy to work with. I am happy with this purchase. Built in the US and is sturdy. It should last several seasons.

Did much better that I thought it would
Very easy to assemble. You will have to cut off one bolt to bolt on the Tow Bars on the Right Side Front. Other than that, no issues at all. I pulled it behind my Textron Stampede and ran my back pasture first with a 50# bad of Play Sand strapped on. There is no crab grass on that pasture and last year it did not grow very well at all. The photo on the left is why. All that came from an approx.. 10 by 15 area.My Front Pasture due to an irrigation issue on my neighbors ranch had alot of crab grass grow in it late in the summer, The photo on the right is from that front pasture. It removed almost all of the long arms of the crab grass and left very nice water rows.It worked so well on my back pasture it would take me 3 or 4 straight days to clean by hand so I ordered a lawn sweeper to speed things up. I wont put my Steers on it until it greens up a bit. All in all I would recommend this to anyone that does not want to buy a full blown harrier drag. My neighbors thought it was cute and a waste of money..... He's using it to do his back pasture today after seeing how well is did. On a straight lawn with pop-ups I would not use the weight. I did the front lawn behind my zero turn and it cost me 4 sprinklers so I speak of what I learned. This is a SOLID PRODUCT and worth the mild amount of money as compared to larger hard to handle and storage options.

Works well but the tines can't be raised.
As the title states this works as well as expected. The major problem is the tines can't be raised up like the smaller and cheaper version does. We have a large lot 2 1/2 acres. To take this from the garage I have to wheel it upside down to where I want to dethatch my grass. This is very difficult to do. Otherwise it works as advertised and doesn't need additional weight added.
