Utopia Project: The Frayed Threads of Hope

Congratulations Billy D you’ve done it again !!!
The mystery, intrigue and personal introspection continue to intensify in book two of this trilogy. While this appears as an easy and most entertaining read, there are a variety of deep seeded historical references that offer various perspectives on the true foundation of democracy. Although I absolutely enjoyed reading books one and two and sincerely look forward to reading book three of this trilogy, truth be told, I do become anxious as I drive east on the Thomas A Mathis bridge for fear of seeing the three ships.

Plato, Huxley and Finney continue...
So, as noted in an earlier review of volume 1, if Billy Dering was tending bar the night Plato, Aldous Huxley and Jack Finney were telling stories over cold ones, the second volume in this trilogy was likely born of Finney’s contributions. I am sure Billy Dering had body snatchers running through his dreams.Plato made his points about humanity needing a fresh start by eliminating all who may resist “re-education”. Huxley was going on about the technology of socialization. But Finney must have spun a very human and gritty tale about survival, betrayal, and exhausted hope. This second installment of Utopia Project’s story conveys the desperation of the small band fighting to preserve themselves—literally and figuratively—as humanity’s last hope. Yet, even amidst this practical (and noble) struggle, the reasons why the chilling Utopia Project was conceived and justified by its proponents are manifest. Emotional complexity which grounds, yet compromises, all relationships is on full display in “The Frayed Threads of Hope”. But wisdom of hope in freedom’s virtue—and future—is less clear in the stark light of human fallibility. Will the age-old quest of elites to reform humanity “for its own good” paradoxically succeed precisely because of inherent weaknesses associated with the dark side of human emotion? Will Kid Carlson’s hunted remnant survive—and humanity with it? Or will freedom fall to contrived harmony rooted in Utopia Project’s emotionless conformity?I trust the final volume of Utopia Project will resolve these dramatic tensions. Perhaps it will also give a glimpse why the struggle for freedom and untidy emotions which drive it, are quintessentially human—and worth it.Nevertheless, “The Frayed Threads of Hope” is riveting on its own and perfect for those who wish escape from economic and political stresses. They may even find such storytelling, of hope as fundamental desire, may give answer to the larger question. (I will give volume two, 4 out of 5 stars only because the story is not yet complete.)

Absolutely amazing!!
I read the first book in one day. The second book was equally stimulating and a great boom that I read in one day again! The author has a way of giving such a detailed picture that you can feel yourself in the book and relate to all of the characters. The plot twists were unexpected and intriguing. I am looking forward to book 3!
