There are better out there
Not having the right length of hair to fully test these, I asked a friend to put them through their paces - and disappointing was the reaction. The smoothing action simply was not up to the mark of other similar models and the curling/wave action was passable at best.Given that the basic operations were just not up to the basic standards you would expect, it raises the question as to why such a tool was made available to buy.We thought it might just be an issue with this particular tool - but as others have experienced similar disappointment, it is clear that it is simply a poor piece of design/build.Shame.

No curls, just the odd kink and snags.
This is something that promises everything and delivers nothing - such a disappointment and about as useful as a chocolate (curling) iron. I have fine (healthy) hair but quite a lot of it, so it usually takes curls quite well (although they never usually last very long). I tried all of the 4 styles this boasted and couldn't get it to do what it promised on any one! I don't write negative reviews often but these just didn't do anything for me.The good points first: it's adjustable temperature (120-230C) which is good for people with finer hair like me which doesn't need as much heat to style it. It comes with a heat resistant pouch which is useful to rest it on when in use. The power cord is generously long. It heats up quite quickly and has an auto power off safety feature. It's a nice colour...The important thing, though, is how easy it is to use and how functional it is - does it do its job? One word: no! Firstly, the barrel is not hinged so you have to slide the hair in between a very narrow fixed gap. This dictates the amount of hair you can curl in one go - any more than a thin layer and it won't fit. Add to that, it's quite tricky to navigate a layer of hair into a fixed narrow gap using the reflection in the mirror as a guide, while the styler is hot, and it's not a good start. There are 4 styles this claims to do, helped by the hard plastic outer 'sleeve' that it comes with, which fits over the standard metal barrel to give more width and hence the option for more styles:* Medium curls (done without the outer 'sleeve'): slide the hair into the tiny gap, use the protective glove that comes with the product, wrap hair around the barrel and voila. Only...it's difficult to section hair whilst wearing a woolly glove, let alone hold the hair in place if your hair has any kind of softness about it. 10 seconds later - no curls.* Loose curls (done with the outer sleeve attached): Slide the hair into the tiny gap, turn the styler 180 degrees, then 'simply' pull it down the length of the hair slowly. Tried at all speeds and temperatures and the result is the same: hair that snags in the plastic sleeve and a barely discernible curl at the very bottom.* Waves (done with the outer sleeve): Slide the hair into the tiny gap, and turn the styler 90 degrees in opposite directions as you work your way down the strand of hair. This yielded the best results, but it was still very faint waves at best.* Smoothing (done with the outer sleeve): Slide the hair into the tiny gap (sensing a theme here) and slide down the section of hair. It does smooth (rather than straighten in the usual sense), which is good if, like me, you're not a fan of the poker straight look, but because you can only get a thin layer of hair into the tiny gap (!) each time it would take an age to get all of my hair smoothed. Plus there was the snagging that seemed to occur as a few strands caught on the plastic outer sleeve every time i removed the hair from it.I tried this at its maximum temperature and followed the guidance in the accompanying booklet carefully, all to no avail. I can get better results from a cheap pair of straighteners, without the fuss and snagging and messing about required with this. Obviously everybody's hair is different, and i was cautious about leaving my hair on the heated barrel for TOO long, but despite this i expected so much from these and ended up sorely disappointed.

Unimpressed
I gave these to my wife to try as she usually achieves her curls/waves using just the heat from the hairdryer and scrunching the hair (a rather time consuming process) so she was very excited at the prospect of saving some time in the mornings using these. Sadly, the results were nowhere near as good and after 20 minutes gave up completely. She has long hair, of medium thickness, and had to pass the curlers through each section of hair several times before it even looked remotely curled. Maybe persevering for longer may give better results, but we were both disappointed with the product considering its quite high price. Maybe it will work better on other hair types, but on our experience, I can’t recommend these.

Some good points
These styling tongs come with variable heat with a digital display so you can easily regulate the temperature. They have a split barrel so that you can curl, wave and straighten with the same tool. Both of these I think are excellent and worth paying a bit more for. They say they have “advanced silk ceramic coating” I don’t know what difference this makes, it probably protects the hair. I have no idea what the “3D effect design” is or what it does. None of the literature explains it. I suspect it’s meaningless marketing guff.

No probs, great results.
We've had a lot of Remington hair styling products over the years and have enjoyed a pretty much 100% success rate. Both my wife and niece have tried this out, and despite having very different hair types and expectations, they were both delighted with the results. It's hard to find fault with build quality, these just work and work. I don't think we've had any weird problems with power, or plugs breaking or anything like that. Just spot on product design and execution. You will not be disappointed.

Hair curler.
I found this hair tool quite useful. I had a fairly good result from curling my own hair which is very fine, but lots of it! I was more successful with curling my hair extensions using this tool. The curls stayed in very well too. The only function I wasn't impressed with was the smoothing tool. It was next to useless really. So, not a bad item to own but there are better products out there than this one.
