The book is amazing but this is pretty expensive considering the small size of the book. This 100 page book is being sold at 600 is appalling to me.

I wasn't sure what to expect from this book, but as soon as I started reading it, I was drawn in. Aitmatov really paints a clear picture of this specific area (NW Kyrgyzstan near the Kazakhstan border) in a specific time period (1940's), and brings the characters to life. I had never read anything about this particular area in this time, or even a story that takes place in a collective farming system. I wasn't looking to read a love story either, but the love story itself is so subtle yet powerful. I read this book in two nights. I would read it again and I highly recommend. I now definitely want to read more by Aitmatov.

Nice book with the charm and warmth of love in the time of war from a small village in Kirghistan. The modest innocence of their day to day tribal lives presents a mellow satisfaction.

As you can tell from some of the other reviews, the plot centers around the life on a collective farm in Kyrgyzstan during WWII, and specifically covers a love story. The characters and the scenery are richly described and there is little dialog. This book was beautifully written and can even give a slight glimpse into Kyrgyzstan's history.

There were some problems on the book which do not effect your reading, do not disturb you at all. As I said condition is good. The book is written by Cengiz Aytmatov, there is no need to talk about how he writes :)

Un petit livre qui se lit vite. C'est l'histoire d'une femme libre qui choisit de partir avec celui qu'elle aime, un marginal rejeté par leur entourage. Elle transgresse les interdits dans une société éminemment traditionnelle et conservatrice, la portée de l'histoire dans son environnement rural sera plus parlante pour les lecteurs ayant déjà voyagé au Kirghizistan.
