Research Based Workbook 🩷🌱
A very helpful research-backed workbook. My partner and I have been doinhg thr exercises along with reading the companion text, and it's helped us connect and understand each other better. The idea behind Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) is an evolutionary perspective of love relationships. In conflict, when we fear losing our loved one, a primitive reaction of being abandoned in the wilderness returns to us. Instead of focusing on surface level communication, EFT goes to the root of these human needs for companionship. It also focuses on attachment style and, most interesting, systems thinking within a relationship, which has been a game changer for us.

Thank you Dr. Sue!
Attending a hold me tight workshop saved our marriage and using a workbook like this was a big part of that. Having a place to reflect, write and share our own perspectives with each other led to an amazing moment of forgiveness and healing we desperately needed after 25 years stuck in conflict, confusion and increasing brokenness. Yes, we probably should have been divorced a long time ago. We committed to make a happy and enduring union, but we just couldn’t find our way back to happy no matter how hard we tried. At times we were hanging in there just to bug each other.. When we finally reached a breaking point we somehow found Dr. Sue’s book Hold me Tight and learned it was normal(!) for many couples to fall into conflict over fears of being left, or not needed or feeling unimportant to each other and then to get stuck reacting to each other in ways that just confirm and reinforce those fears and increase our sense of failure and loneliness. That was us for sure. While we did as much as we could on our own; read hold me tight over and over and to each other, tried to have the conversations it introduced, sometimes succeeding, sometimes getting really, really stuck, when we realized we needed more help we signed up for a hold me tight workshop and spent an amazing week with Sam Jinich and the lovely and talented Michelle Gannon in Big Sur and got the support we needed to reach a big moment of forgiveness and healing. In addition to Michelle’s calming presence, the workbook they provided was what helped us the most. Not that I would trade our experience that week for the world, but I think we could have gotten a lot further on our own if we had a workbook like that when we first read the book. Now we do! Thank you Dr. Sue for making this available to couples who might feel helplessly stuck now but can find their way back to each other with a little hope and great tools like this!

Helped Saved My Marriage
Hold me tight book and workbook came recommended from our therapist. I would recommend this book anyone looking to strengthen their marriage or relationship. I recommend getting both the book and the workbook. The book itself was great, but the workbook allowed for my spouse and I to work through questions easily and peacefully. After working with a therapist and the use of this book and workbook I was able to better communicate with my partner.

Ok
It's pretty basic, going over the same things over and over again, but it did help to write down things instead of having to bring them up all on my own.

Somewhat helpful
It has some helpful reminders and insights: how important loving relationships are to one's wellbeing and resilience, healing relationship traumas through deep conversation, apologies, and forgiveness, and healthy intimacy and how that reinforces the relationship. However I find the overall approach, framework, and terminology is not that helpful, it's not that intuitive or easy to follow or apply. Also some of the language is a bit extreme e.g. "demon" which makes it more difficult to connect to.

Anger management
I came across this book while trying to solve/rebuild my relationship with my partner. We both have anger issues and psychological situations that we turned into the people who couldn’t communicate with each other without being irritated or annoyed. We still love each other a lot, but we need something or someone to help with our highly tighten situation, and this book has helped us tremendously. The exercises were helpful in a sense that it helped us think consciously and deliberately about the conflict, about the current moment, about the other person. It helped calm us down in the heated moments and helped us to realize we still love and wanted to understand the other person. I hope the ebook version could be available in pdf form so writing and scribbling would become much easier.
