Review of The Axiom of Choice by Godfrey Powell
I thoroughly enjoyed this novel with its blend of an exciting and intriguing science fiction story set against a background of awe inducing science and technology. The story starts off slowly enough with Professor Ernst Flaubert preparing himself for what well may be a last mountain climb. However, the reader soon realises that danger awaits on the mountain. The pace of the book quickens as the main protagonists are introduced. There are the young scientists, the beautiful intelligent Rene and the brilliant albeit socially inept David, the enigmatic, dynamic entrepreneurial genius Ben not to mention the clever scheming British Prime Minister and his politician cohorts. The action jumps from London to Switzerland and outer space as the young scientists' research and discoveries lead them into danger and all the protagonists race to decode the alien message. Amid the mounting suspense, global panic and chaos, it soon becomes clear that life on earth will never be the same again. I won't spoil the story for readers by going into any more details but I would just say that I found the beautiful descriptions of the universe, planets and outer space to be both educational and inspiring. I would recommend this book to any science fiction fans who enjoy an intelligent well paced science fiction adventure story.

Your life is a lie.... but you can't!!
Absolutely loved this book!I must confess I didn't go looking for this book or have any knowledge of the author... This was very much a TikTok made me buy it moment, but I'm am very glad I did.The story was brilliant, I was fully immersed from the start. I could quiet easily have read it in a day but mum duties get in the way.Its aimed in the YA field but I totally own being 47 and still love YA fiction. The story follows Amrey and her life in Axiom... but life in Axiom is far from perfect. Her world gets turned upside down and she finds herself running from everything she's known... Can she saved her loved ones from the lie that is Axiom?Read it for yourself and find out.Cant wait to read more from this author.

Can't wait for the sequel
A great read! This was my first foray into science fiction. Without scientific background, I was easily able to follow the compelling plot, convincingly carried with authentic dialogue and some superb, detailed description. A scene where, early on in the novel, a character loses his foothold or is pushed over a cliff to his death is cinematically choreographed. Other times, the language is spare, leading the reader to draw his own conclusions.Definitely a page turner and can't imagine anyone finding it less than fascinating.

Some lovely writing combining scientific speculations and human relationships
A wonderful read, weaving several different strands into an overall whole, with ideas ranging across scientific speculations, the nature and purpose of alien contact, the future of technology and education, all set in the light of varying human relationships. Very enjoyable indeed.
