Great planes, for older kids
The good first: These planes are GREAT. My kids and I have made a lot of planes and these are the best planes we've seen. I'm not one to want to spend a lot of time trying to tweak a plane to get it to fly, and we didn't have to with these. We could play catch across the living room, they fly so accurately. We haven't made all of them, but even the "specialty" planes we've made fly well. The Starfighter is my favorite. Flies awesome and looks awesome, too.The not-so-good: I bought this book for my 7 year-old. The planes are too difficult for him to make on his own. In order to save paper space, the author often refers to other planes as starting points. If you have the other planes memorized, that's fine. Unfortunately, it means a lot of flipping around if you're just starting or haven't looked at it in a while. Same thing with the flip-through animation for tips. You have to leave the page you're on to see how to make certain folds.Despite those things, I gave the book five stars because the planes themselves are so fun. Just don't expect it to be an independent project for younger kids.

Very nearly perfect
My friend and I sat down and made every model. Some of the illustrations were difficult to follow. That caused a few non fatal crashes. Also the flip book instructions were too short to work very well with so few pages. Oherwise it was a lot if fun and we used it at summer camp.

great book Mr Collins
From front to back this book is a wealth of information and unique paper planes. The instructions are well thought out and the types of folds are explained very well...The planes I've made so far were the most challenging ones in the book and they came out fine...I'm waiting for his sister book, Fantastic Flight. Oh the Trang , Starfighter, starship shuttle, AWACS are awesome to make and fly!

Not your average paper airplanes!
Patience is a must when you first try many of these airplanes. They are not your classroom planes! I’m an advanced origami artist, and I found many of these to be very challenging! The key is to have the correct kind of paper; typing paper won’t usually work as it’s too bulky.

This is a great book! Bought it for my 7th grade class doing a flight and space unit. Most planes seem to be pretty easy to follow and fold, great instructions (some get complicated and frustrate my students) and I also like the added flying lessons and bernoulli's principle info at the beginning. The phoenix flies the best so far!

Good idea, poor production
I bought this for my 7 year old son who has watched (and re-watched!) a youtube video of John Collins demonstrating a few of his planes. My son is very interested in paper planes and really wanted to learn how to make the ones he saw in the video, so I thought this was a good pick. The instructions, however, are a bit difficult to follow - even for my husband. For example, he was helping our son create the second plane in the book and it ended up involving three of us. In the middle of the instructions, we learn there was a prefold that we needed to have done and we had to unfold everything to make that prefold and then fold it back up again! The point being that it's not impossible - but it's just poorly written. You'd think they would put all the basic fold styles at the beginning for easy reference. But they don't. They are illustrated on the outside margin in flip book fashion. So you have to keep moving through the pages to figure it out.It could have been good. I would only recommend this for serious origami/paper airplane enthusiasts who are *committed* to figuring the instructions out.

Great book, a bit of learning curve to figure ...
Great book, a bit of learning curve to figure out the lingo, the folds, and what the author is referring to but fun. Don't expect a child under 12 to be able to take this book, and start slamming out great airplanes - it going to take some help from Mom and Dad (friend, etc).

careful instructions
My phoenix flew pretty well, for my first try. If you are able to go slowly and stick to the instructions, everything is there for you to make a good plane. And to fine-tune it so it flies well. Many kids might be too impatient. I am 63.

Avions en papiers
De nombreux modèles pour étoffer sa collection d'avions en papier, il faut juste connaitre l'anglais, quoique c'est suffisamment bien illustré .
