Quick & Easy Herb Stripper
The media could not be loaded. This herb stripper is so easy to use! Stripping kale leaves from the stalk is so quick. I also use it for cilantro, rosemary, parsley, and dill. It’s one of my favorite small kitchen tools, especially since I’ve started incorporating more Whole Foods and experimenting with spices as I move toward plant-based eating for health. Love Herbie!

Does not work well
First of all, the picture in the ad showed a far larger wooden spice item. The actual one is quite small. I tried it with rosemary and gave up, as it just did not do t'job, as the Brits would say. Went back to using my fingers instead.

Cute kitchen tool - small and useful
Purchased a couple of these from a food and kitchen show in Santa Fe a couple of years ago. It works well and love that it's made in the USA. If kale stalk is too big to go through largest hole, I just use the side to strip the stalk.

Cute nifty tool
This is such a fun kitchen tool that you never knew that you needed until you have this available and handy. This allows you to slide the tool across an herb and the leaves instantly fall off. There are various size holes and slots that can fit nearly any herb that you like.Overall, a great tool and I highly recommend it for any chef.

Beautiful! But a bust on my rosemary
I was ridiculously excited for this to arrive as I use fresh herbs daily. But mainly I was so stoked that it’s not plastic. Like every exclamation mark, people—it’s NOT plastic!!! And Made in the USA? Sigh, heavenly. When I requested this Vine item, I noticed that almost every one of the dozen-ish reviews mentioned “Herbie’s” usefulness for kale. With no knock against kale, I don’t eat kale. But as this is marketed as much for herbs as large leafy greens, I’d anticipated it could do more than strip kale. From the beautiful, smooth quality of wood to the darling little box it arrives in, there is so much to love here. So it utterly pains me that this isn’t quite as spectacular an option as I’d hoped. I happen to keep the 3 example herbs the box states Herbie is perfect for: rosemary, thyme and cilantro. I use them regularly (and grow my own rosemary). But multiple attempts with rosemary proved fruitless— the stem snapped so easily. No matter the hole size I chose, at some point along the process the stem broke. My husband, a very big-brained engineer, did that thing where he was all like ‘move over and let me show you how’. And then the *exact same thing happened on his attempts*. Vindicated it wasn’t my user error, I was still so sad; rosemary is one of the most annoying herbs to clean, perhaps because of its potency. I have herb sheers, those do help, but was hoping this stripper would be just the ticket and limit over handling. But something about this particular design vs the size of the holes just doesn’t work with my rosemary. The only thing I can think of is that store-bought or refrigerated herbs might have a different stiffness or overall consistency than than our freshly plucked outdoor version.A bit better news with the cilantro and thyme; it worked ok. Other (evil plastic) herb strippers I’ve seen offer more hole sizes, I really think adding a couple of other size options would help this piece. Hubby also suggested the beveling in each hole could be modified too but his technical elaboration is not one I’ll transcribe here. BTW, I also tried it on fresh mint and that didn’t work so well either.I don’t know if I should leave more than 3 stars for a product that isn’t as practical as it claims. But since this is wood, veteran crafted and genuinely gorgeous, I can’t be too persnickety. With some simple modifications this would be five stars. It will still make an excellent gift for a kale lover. But it didn’t work ideally on 50% of the herbs I experimented with… and while Herbie may not end up at the very back of the drawer, it likely won’t be reached for as often as I’d assumed. I'd give it 3.5 stars if I could.

Finally!
Stripping herbs is one of the most tedious tasks in the kitchen. I was overjoyed when this arrived and it has completely evolved my kitchen time. With a simple tug through a home, you'll have a pile of stripped herbs and a clean stem in your hand. It works super well. The good quality wood is beautiful and feels great in the hand. Definitely recommend
