Dragonar Academy Vol. 11

I like this manga series but the thing that stopped me from giving this 5 stars was the stupidity of having the new rival not be who he claimed to be & just end up adding to mess of all the females wanting Ash. Seriously I was already upset "he" was trying to take away Rebecca & Eco but to have it make things worse for him instead was lame.

Dragons keeps getting better story's are great hope gets better and a new season 2 anime keep going thank you.

Short version: I don't like Oscar. I made this clear in my review of volume 10, and sure enough, Oscar is back in 11. Only, it's been dialed up to a dangerous level.Long version:Okay, look. I'm going to probably get on a soap box here toward the end. Some of you may even read this as nothing more than "oh look, it's just another Social Justice Warrior whining about blah blah blah...". The reason it may read like this is because Oscar, and thus the author, crosses a line in this volume that ticks me off, and it's compounded by how the whole event is treated. If this sounds like it's going to be a waste of time, then I suggest you stop reading here.For those of you who dare to go deeper, read on.So, as you all should recall, Oscar was introduced in the last volume. This character made their debut by beating up, and then stripping, several of our female leads, mocking them for being weak, and then claiming that Rebecca is nothing more than a trophy to be married. I said that Oscar is like Lord Riser from Highschool DXD, and that this storyline should have been dealt with much earlier in the series.I was ALMOST worried that I'd have to take those words back once a certain secret is revealed about Oscar in this volume. You want a hint? Look at the cover for EVERY OTHER Dragonar Academy book. Notice anything? Now look at this cover. Do you see it? Look for a pattern, one that is even continued on the cover of the next volume. Did you find it? Yep. That's Oscar's secret.When this was revealed in the story, I thought Oscar would change, or at least grow on me a bit more. But no. We get maybe a few panels of Oscar not being a total word-that-I-probably-shouldn't-type, and then Oscar is right back to it.The story revolves around the planned 500 year celebration at the Academy, and Oscar wants the Student Council--of which Oscar is VICE PRESENT of, something that still bothers me greatly considering how Oscar behaves toward everyone--to have a special tournament between them. The grand prize: the winner gets to demand anything they way.Obviously, all the girls suddenly say, "I want to jump in the sack with Ash!" in some way or another without even considering Ash's feelings on the matter (this kind of made my skin crawl, and if it doesn't for you, imagine how it would look if Ash was a girl and these were all guys. I mean, I know this is a harem, but Ash is suddenly not even worth being treated as a human being by these ladies?).But Oscar's reasoning for doing this is to keep the secret that this book reveals about Oscar. You see, Ash finds out Oscar's secret, so Oscar demands that Ash stops being a boy and marry Oscar in order to secure Ash's silence. And does Oscar care that this makes Ash uncomfortable, and is completely and utterly ridiculous? Nope. Like I said, Oscar's character does not change at all. It's all about what best serves Oscar, and everyone else is worthless.Now obviously, Ash isn't going to just sit the tournament out. He promises to win so that Oscar will stop pursuing Eco and Rebecca as nothing more than trophy wives, and there we go. The book ends with the tournament getting started and Ash revealing a new power that is no doubt going to make him even MORE popular with pretty much every person at the school now.So that's one missing star: Oscar is still a sleazeball, and really needs a good punch in the face. Oh, and why doesn't Ash use Oscar's secret as leverage? "I'm not the type to go telling other people's secrets like that." Are you KIDDING me Ash? After everything Oscar has done and has threatened to do, you're going to play the noble card? You know what you should have done? "Listen up, Oscar. Back off. Stay away from MY dragon, stay away from my friends, and stay away from Rebecca. Cross this line even a LITTLE, and the entire nation is going to know your secret!" But nope, have to play the noble good guy I guess. Everything about Oscar just makes me sick, even knowing Oscar's secret, to the point where I had to struggle to finish this volume, and thus I take off one star.Sure, we can already see the cracks in Oscar's armor, and we know what fate will eventually befall this character just based on the quick looks given to Ash (have you seriously not figure out the secret yet?), but it is going to be a chore for me to get to that point I fear.Now, here's the part that might tick some readers off, but I feel it needs to be brought up. It is the reason I took off a second star as well. Be prepared.Oscar tries to basically date-rape Eco. Remember that substance that gets dragons drunk and, in Eco's case, horny? It's called Ansar. Oscar gets Eco alone in a room and offers her some tea laced with that stuff. Eco immediately succumbs to it, and Oscar says, "Now that you're under its influence, why not let yourself go and accept me?" Oscar is hoping that Eco will throw herself at 'him' now that she's been roofied. Thankfully that doesn't happen (Eco starts humping a desk instead) and Oscar doesn't try to force the issue, but this entire scene was just...ugh.Look, I get it. This series is full of sexual images and girls in revealing outfits being put in compromising positions. But whenever that happens, it's during a battle, or it's an accident (we're all familiar with the "Oops, I feel on top of your and your hand grabbed me" scenes), but here, this is deliberate sexual assault. This is grounds for getting Oscar kicked out of the school I feel, even if Eco is really a dragon and not a girl. This is a level of disgusting that I am really not comfortable with, and it makes me hate Oscar even more.But the real stinger? The real salt in the wound, is that this is played off as a JOKE. When Ash comes back and Eco instantly throws herself at him, does he get furious that Oscar just trying to sleep with an intoxicated Eco? Does he immediately pound Oscar's face into the ground? Does he even yell at him? NO! He asks Oscar to help get Eco off of him, and then the other girls come in and--since Ash is dressed as a girl at this point because of reasons--they start blushing and wondering why Ash is into this sort of thing. All while Oscar calmly sits there and drinks tea.So yeah, that's the second missing star.Bottom Line: I don't like Oscar. I really, really, REALLY don't like Oscar. I'm looking forward to when Oscar finally gets the just desserts that are no doubt coming (although it will probably be written to be tragic and Ash will come flying to rescue, thus finally making Oscar turn over a new leaf), but I'm cringing thinking that I'm probably going to have to endure another full volume, possibly two, of this character being worse that sleaze.
