So you want a Meade LX telescope...
I own a Meade LX 90 and thinking of going to a higher spec Meade - so a great read. very informative and authoritative.

Meade LX telescope
Well done. Well written. Properly illustrated. I think Meade should, simply, include this with each and every LX telescope purchased through Meade. If you own an LX telescope, you will want to read this book.

its all in the title
As the title says, this is a book written for owners of the Meade LX200 with ALT/AZ fork mount, being the LX400 series is no longer in production. More specifically, its a book intended for owners of LX200/400/600 ACF SCT 10 inches or bigger, using an equatorial wedge with a Meade fork mount and Meade handcontroller, CCD camera with a autoguider system for astrophotography. Main audience are those interested in astrophotography. The book contains enough good general information to make it worthwhile, including the best explaination of periodic error and correction I have ever seen anywhere. Although a lot of the info is specific to the hardware and software of the Meade mount, it can be applied to other mounts and telescopes, including great info on balacing, focusing, setting up.

Five-star resource but could be organized better
I have owned a variety of telescopes over the years, my most recent (and most expensive) acquisition being a 12" LX200ACF. I mounted it on a wedge on my permanent pier in my observatory. I was initially quite disappointed with the tracking ability, image quality and goto accuracy. I bought this book after reading a review. This book does NOT do as the title suggests (help you select a high-end telescope), but I knew that before purchasing. What it DOES provide is a plethora of tips regarding optimizing your LX200 for tracking, image quality and goto accuracy! I would recommend reading the book from cover-to-cover at least twice before acting on any of the advice (the information isn't ordered optimally, in my opinion). For those of us looking to optimize our LX200s, this book covers everything the Meade "manual" does not. Balancing, for example. Super-accurate polar alignment. Excellent PEC training. Computer-assisted collimation. How to make optimum use of ACP to sync your LX200 with your planetarium program, so you really can point, image and measure remotely. Here's an example of the power of the information in this book - I was able to balance my telescope to greatly reduce the stress on the motors and gears. I was able to (permanently) align my LX200 to within an arc minute of the celestial pole. I was able to reduce my PEC to under 2 seconds of arc. This book is phenomenal - an excellent value considering you shelled out thousands for your LX200!
