Excellent reference book well illustrated and good value
This books consists of photos of various locations and buildings, showing an up-to-date colour photo and an older black and white photo of the same subject matter viewed from the same camera location - usually early 20th century or Victorian picture. Comparisons are thus made easy and highlight stark and interesting changes. There is a summarising history or description of the building or location. It makes a fascinating reference book of local history. I have just moved to Wimbledon and this book has given me hours of a fascinating visual history of the area. Enjoying it. Seems good value too.

Well worth having on your book shelf
Wimbledon and its village are larger in size than Southfields and so the book reflect that in its contents. However, as a former resident of Southfields for twenty-two years it has evoked a few memories. I would have liked to have seen an item on the former 'Plaza' cinema in Wimbledon Park Road and the prefabs opposite but you cannot have everything. If you live there now or, like me, lived in the vicinity once upon a time then, then take the time to purchase the best value of the books on offer. My first purchase was pre-ordered at the original price but within a few weeks of publication I got it £5 cheaper - for exactly the same content!

Nostalgia Time
I getting to that age where nostalgia comes into play, so to find this item regarding my birthplace and mis-spent youth is just brilliant. I was luckily recommended it by the WHS and both reading and looking at the pictures conjures up many memories, so very pleased that this item has been produced, many thanks to the author.
