Q: How do I prevent the lock from dropping inside door when trying to install?

With a screwdriver or scissors, put it in the slot on the side of the mortise lock and turn to make the hook come out. The with vice grips, so it keeps gripping even though you loosen up your hand, grab the hook sticking out and leave the vice grips attached to the hook. Gently place inside the edge of the door and pull forward so you can screw in. Make sure the Vice grip is firmly applied to the hook, you can also as a secondary precaution, tie a strike around the base of the hook so, if the vice grip looses grip, you can have it attached to a string so it won't be lost inside the door. But you have to anchor the string to something else obviously like a chair or something etc.

Q: I need just the handle for the #3-45-S (5 and 1/4") mortise replacement door lock. Is just the handle available?

You can find those at the hardware store separetly.

Q: If we order two locks is it possible to have the same key open both?

The lock I bought does not have a key, only a lever. If you are buying keyed locks I believe a locksmith could set them up for the same key. I have done that on my entry doors and my garage door.

Q: Will this replace a pella lock? Does it come with instructions on installing?

it gives you all the different measurements take out your broken one and match up all the measurements and if it looks the same get it. I have replaced mine , not a pella door but used their measurements and it worked perfectly. go for it.
