Is this a big enough upgrade from the 450C to justify?

This is a personal opinion question. It is an upgrade that can be detected under normal conditions by a normal listener; if that is enough to justify it for you, then yes, if not then no.

Will this work with 40hz crossover?

It would work. That being said we would recommend a crossover setting above 50Hz since the frequency range of this speaker is - 50-25kHz +/- 3dB.

can you use regular speaker wires, just remove from old speaker and use on this?
