Meh...
Unless your a die hard Joe Hill fan/collector I would skip this one. If you HAVE to have it (like I did to add to my SK collection...) then I would strongly suggest looking for this one on sale or used. The story was mediocre and they added another story at the end of the book to add to the value. However, the second story is very dull and uninspiring.

This Novella doesn't waste a word.
Joe Hill, author of Thumbprint, writes like the devil. This is a war story for people who don't like war. That's not to say there's no violence, but we all get what we deserve. What can one say about a novella that is only 35 pages long? Of course, I didn't want it to end. Mal was stationed at the prison in Abu Ghraib. She's not proud of the way she acted there. She was an interrogator. Now it's her turn. When Joe Hill writes a story, he makes Stephen King, his dad, more than proud.

Great story. Doesn't need comics
Joe Hill, as he matures in his craft, will find that the mature reader appreciates his talent, unfettered by the crayon screenings of schoolyard artists. Just my opinion, of course...Gaston Sanders, author

Like father, like son.
I have never read anything by Joe Hill that I haven't liked. Simply stated, if you like Stephen King, you'll love Joe Hills.

IT'S A COMIC BOOK!
It's a comic book and impossible to read on my Kindle. I never would have purchased it had I been aware.

a worthy story to tell
This collection includes Kodiak in addition to Thumbprint as the former is a more "light weight" story. Thumbprint is about the soldiers who tortured prisoners at Abu Graib and includes the effects of PTSD their actions may have had on some. Hill does a good job of avoiding the politics of the story while focusing primarily on the individuals involved. Kodiak tells of a vicious bear turned loose on animals and prisoners and really could have been expanded upon to be a fictionalized account of the beginnings of cock fights or dog fights as betting sports. Instead we get a brief "win some and lose some" sort of story. The art is almost excellent for both stories though so four stars are easily justified.

It also includes the orginal short story!
I have just read "Full Throttle" a collection of short stories by Joe Hill, and this tale was amongst my favorites! It holds up well in this graphic novel format, and the artwork is wonderful, but the short story version was a bit better. Good news! That version is in here too! You can read for yourself, but I found that the biggest difference was in the ending. For my value, I liked that short story version of that better too!In addition, there is a short, short story in this volume titled "Kodiak". Decent story, great artwork also, and a nice little ending! Not related at all to the main story, but a nice little bonus!
