What a surprise to find that there was so much more than just his three best known songs(...Clock, Shake..., and ...Alligator). Haley covers a lot of styles and covers a lot of songs made famous by others. The slower tempos of the country songs bring out the best in Haley's vocals. 46 of the songs in this collection are in stereo including a 1960 recording of Rock Around the Clock. The sound quality is excellent. For most of the first three discs the songs feature sax and guitar solos. Piano is featured more on disc four. Haley does most of the vocals but a couple of songs are sung by other members of the band and a couple of songs are sung by a vocal group. None of the songs use strings or choir. Of the seven albums included, one is country and one is an album of instrumentals. The rest are rock and roll or pop. Clearly , Haley and the Comets were not one hit wonders.

The cd collection arrived early and was packaged well. The CDs themselves, had many deep and rewarding tracks. A great collection from a very influential artist and his very talented band.

This 4-CD box is focused on Bill Haley’s Decca and Warner Brothers years. It includes most of his album releases and the singles that were not included on albums. Five of the albums were released by Decca and two by Warner Brothers. The singles were on Decca, Warner Bros. and the small Gone label. Since there are plenty of other reviews that comment on the songs, I’ll stick to some of the other issues.On the positive side, you get a very complete collection of Bill’s recordings that were released between 1956 and 1961. Unlike some reissue sets, the audio levels are not pushed to the point of clipping and there isn’t any heavy compression to make older recordings sound louder. The tracks are generally arranged in the order the records were released with albums at the beginning of each CD and then some singles. The songs that were released on “Strictly Instrumental” and the two Warner Brothers albums are the stereo mixes. Six of the songs from “Bill Haley’s Chicks” are stereo and the rest are monaural. That original vinyl album was issued in both mono and stereo so I’m not sure what the story is on the six songs that are not stereo on this CD. I haven’t found any CD with these songs in stereo and I don’t have access to the original L.P. to compare. All together, you get 115 songs in this collection – a really good value.On the negative side, there are lots of small problems that may not matter to some fans who just want the songs and are willing to overlook minor issues. There is no booklet and the only information you get is: song title, timing and which song goes with which album. While the audio quality is very good, the audio levels are not uniform with some songs being much louder than others. The album songs are in the correct order except for “Rockin’ Around The World” where they are not in the same sequence as the original. A few of the tracks have the ending echo chopped off rather abruptly. The producer of the set choose to ignore Bill’s Decca releases from 1954 and 1955 so no original “Rock Around The Clock”. Since they only included five of his Decca albums, that means you are missing “Shake, Rattle and Roll” (10” L.P. from 1954), “Rock Around the Clock” (1955 12” L.P. reissue of the first album with four more tracks) and “Rockin’ The Joint” from 1958. His Vocalion budget label release from 1963 is also not included, but nine of the tracks are already here as “bonus” singles. For the fan seeking a complete collection of Bill’s Decca material, you are also missing his 1964 “Green Door”/“Yeah, She’s Evil” release following his return to Decca after recording in Mexico.This U.K. album offers you access to the majority of Bill’s most commercial recordings. If you couple this with “From Western Swing To Rock” put out as a Proper Box 4-CD set, you will go a long way towards covering his career from 1948 to 1961 at a fraction of the cost of the outstanding Bear Family releases.

If you are interested in Bill Haley you will love thisI like the the instrumentals as will as the singing.Recommend it to early oldie LOVERS.

Love these early albums. Hard-to-find tracks at a great price. Well worth having, as is many others in this series.

I was looking for Bill Haley music from the 50's not what was on the cd,s It sounded like it was for a supper clubwith elderly folks

There are 115 songs in this package. The packaging only includes a listing of when the songs were released - between 1956 and 1961. Perhaps, these recordings are in simulated stereo. However, the sound/sonic quality is outstanding even by today's standards. The songs are musically diverse. There's blues, country, instrumentals, novelty numbers and of course good old rock and roll. Of course, not all songs are worthwhile but I enjoyed 80% of it. It cost around $10.00 - a true bargain

Il y beaucoup de chansons que j’attendais pour la première fois interprétées par Bill Haley et Ses Comets, en plus de plusieurs chansons rares qui ne se trouve pas sur d’autres compilations. Alors ne manquer pas la chance de vous procurez ce Coffret CD, il est formidable. Ce Coffret est sorti en 2012 sur étiquette Real Gone EU. Bonne écoute!

Bill Haley n'a pas eu une vie très longue. Mais la plupart des jeunes de cette époque en étaient fous, un peu comme moi. J'ai déjà écouté et réécouté ce boîtier plusieurs fois. Encore une fois un grand merci à Amazon et... aux musiciens

Nonostante sia un appassionato di musica rock da oltre 40 anni devo riconoscere di avere sempre snobbato Bill Hayley. Credevo che fosse stata una delle tante meteore del rocknroll degli anni 50 e invece questa grandissima antologia che comprende ben 7 album del nostro oltre ad alcuni singoli mi ha fatto ricredere sull'artista, che, invece, è di grandissimo spessore. Non solo rocknroll ma anche blues, rnb, jazz. Spedizione ottima

Auf 4 CDs bekommt der Käufer hier die volle Ladung Bill Haley ab. Die CDs bieten neben den "üblichen" Hits der Band bzw. der bekannten Songs auch noch manch unbekanntes Stück, bei dem man sich sogar fragt, warum es bisher "verborgen" geblieben ist bzw. nie ein Hit wurde. Fazit: Der Käufer macht mit dieser CD-Box wahrlich keinen Fehlkauf und bei dem Preis, ist sowieso jegliche Überlegung unnütz, was übrigens bei fast allen CD-Boxen dieser Serie der Fall ist.
