Yerba Mate Playadito 500gm

This product was recommended to me by a friend who is Argentinian. He drinks it by the barrel :-) I have loved Yerba Mate tea since the ‘70s but haven’t had much in a long while. This tea is superb. The flavor is delicious and smooth. This is the real deal from Argentina. I’m so glad I purchased it.

I love yerba mate and I’m trying to wean myself off of energy drinks. I bought this 1 pound+ bag of loose leaf mate and a pack of fillable drawstring tea bags. I’ll probably get 75 to 100 servings from it depending on how I fill the bags. I can barely buy three of the canned mate drinks at the corner store for this price! Upon opening, it was clear that this is fresh and of good quality. It tastes and smells amazing and is not bitter to my pallate. I fill a blank (that’s what I call them) tea bag with a spoonful of mate and steep it upward of 5 minutes in filtered water heated in the electric kettle to about 160F. I add a pinch of brown sugar and I’m on my way! It’s said that mate should generally steep in hot, but not boiling water. The ‘green tea’ or ‘delicate’ settings on my kettle work perfectly. Hot enough to stay warm in my travel mug but not scald myself, and it keeps the tea from becoming bitter. Lower temps also supposedly preserve the good compounds and maximize caffeine release (so ‘they’ say). I’m weirdly excited about this purchase. The tea is good and the wakefulness is far more pronounced than what I get from canned yerba mate drinks, or high sugar energy drinks. Coffee makes me weird and sweaty and unpleasantly manic and can induce what feels like a bloodsugar crash. Yerba mate has always been kind to me even when consuming up to 5 mugs a day (on the rare high end). I try not to have it after late afternoon as it can keep me awake. This is a great way to enjoy yerba mate at a lower cost than buying packs of ready-made tea bags and it’s a WAY better deal than shelling out the daily cost of a pair of canned mate drinks or energy drinks. Get yourself some fillable drawstring tea bags to go with this big bag of tea!

Taste is good with nothing added, kinda like green tea but not bitterness. Also seems to have a lot of caffeine and comes out very concentrated six tablespoon scoops made a whole kettle for me even though instructions said 6 scoops was one serving. If your a heavy tea drinker like me 4+ bags a day this is what you should get! I can't drink coffee because of acidity makes my teeth sensitive.

Bag doesnt say if Yerba is smoked or not. They taste smoked, would be good to know before purchase! Smells smoked.

Excellent. Superior and the best Yerba Mate ever experienced. Truly a delightful experience. Other brand name had a bitter rancid taste to it. This is smooth, refreshing and delicious. If could give 10 Star would not be enough. Great product. This is so much better that have bagged up old batch and probably going to trash or give away.

I'll be honest, I don't drink this in the traditional way, I make it like regular loose leaf tea but I use more and let it steep a really long time. I also use if to make kombucha (half Yerba mate and half black tea), gives it a great flavor and has the caffeine that kombucha feeds on. and getting the two 2.2 pound packs is a great value but will last a REALLY long time.
