Steadfast Love - Bible Study Book: A Study of Psalm 107

Feels more like a devotional than a Bible study
Do you know how some studies have you taking pages of notes because there is so much to learn? This is not one of those studies. As Christians we are called to be graceful and forgiving, so I had mixed feelings about leaving a negative review. But Lifeway Women released 5 studies this fall, and while I realize some of these are repeats, if you haven't taken any and are faced with decision to pick between the studies due to a limited budget, an honest review could make all the difference. After some of the more in-depth studies by Lifeway Women, this study felt more like a superficial Christian Instagram post with the pretty blonde hair, stylish outfit, pretty backdrop, and the perfect quote from scripture. Her humble bragging and "hard times" of dealing with pride as a worship leader with a sheltered life felt a bit insensitive in light of the the wide scope of grief, and it wasn't until the later half of the study that she does share a little bit about her two miscarriages and her husband's cancer. I wish she had talked more into that and shared her real emotions and struggles with grief on a deeper level rather than just wrapping it neatly into a good girl package where God came through and everything is good now. Because for some of us, our loved one's don't get through cancer, and it's not for lack of faith or prayer. There are a multitude of women who don't get a baby after the miscarriages, and it's not because they were not devoted to God. So this study felt more like a light hearted devotional than a Bible study. Her explanations regarding the passages in the New Testament also felt inaccurate after learning about the Middle Eastern culture and history in Kristi Mclelland's "Jesus and Women" study, and the book jumps around without much focus. I'm sure this study will still be helpful for some people who may not be ready for an in-depth Bible study and just need some encouragement, but if you're looking for an actual in-depth Bible study, this one doesn't deliver.Out of the 5 studies released for free viewing this fall, here they are in the order of my recommendation:1. Jesus and Women by Kristi Mclelland - I learned so much about the Middle Eastern culture and perspective and it really changed the way I understood many segments in the New Testament. Highly, highly recommend.2. Sermon on the Mount by Jen Wilkin - The homework portion is focused and as can be expected of Jen Wilkin, she goes super in-depth and sheds so much light on the Word that you'll want to take every study she could possibly offer.3. The Armor of God by Priscilla Shirer - If you want the perfect balance between an in-depth Bible study with relatable every day examples, Priscilla has you covered. Her examples are spot-on with a touch of humor and she brings a lot of interesting facts and explanations to the table. I still feel like I learned a great deal more from the first two studies than this particular study, but I would still recommend taking this study at least once if you are interested in the Armor of God.4. Entrusted by Beth Moore - More of a Christian motivational leadership and Q&A session with a little bit of Bible study mixed in.5. Steadfast Love by Lauren Chandler

Not as much about Psalm 107...
I'm only into the second week because it has been so hard to stay focused on and get through this study. There is a lot of jumping around. I don't mind looking up scripture, but also looking up dictionary words, trying to find the right words to fill in the blanks of her pre-printed-in-part scriptures, etc., just doesn't put my mind into a headspace of following along with what she is trying to get at. I do better with something more steady. While she is trying to help the reader understand points about God, I just don't see a lot of it tying into Psalm 107.However, a friend I am studying with says the jumpiness of this study helps her stay focused more, so if that's your personal study habit preference, this may be a great book for you. There are a few good questions scattered throughout as thinking/contemplating points. We are doing this without the videos, so maybe that ties things in better?

good solid study!
great study, love the dvd that goes with the leaders guide. really does make you stop and think, but it is a LOT of book work, writing, and searching the bible and different verses, which is fine and i like doing that. forces me to focus on my study vs rush through it!

Perfect if you’re ready for it
This study came at the perfect time in my life, and it spoke to my heart so thoroughly that I can honestly say it changed my life. It’s not a simple, easy-breezy study in the Psalms; it’s a deeper study of every part of Psalm 107, pulled apart into a six-week, daily study. You’ll be Bible flipping, reflecting on your life, and journaling through the deserts, chains, storms, and gratitudes of your life. If you are at a place where your heart is ready to hear from the Lord, then this is a study that can impact your life. I just bought a second copy for a friend. ❤️

Good Bible study, life-practical
It's a good Bible study, and helps you see what is holding you back in life and away from God. I would reccomened this to a younger Christian, because it's a lot more life-practical as opposed to theology.

Steadfast Love
This book is fantastic! Lauren writes so well and more importantly dives into the word! She pulls other scripture correctly to back up and teach expositionally on Psalm 107. And as one who has gone through many trials but not currently going through many I was encouraged to see reminders of truthes learned only through trials. to God be the glory.

Videos not necessary.
I’m almost done with this study and would highly recommend it. You don’t have to have the videos to complete it.

Living Life Through The Storms
Lauren Chandler presents this Psalm beautifully, referencing associated scripture that not only pulls gospel truth together but also makes it alive and pertinent to living life through the storms.
