The Hat Depotwomens Boonie Boonie

I bought this in white for a trip. I machine washed it after wearing it for a month and it still lookslike new. It’s both functional and attractive, keeping extreme sun off of my head and face. The tie held the hat in place on boats and windy ferries. It didn’t cut into my skin and the little thing that you slide to tighten it against your chin held well and didn’t bleed into the fabric when washed.Half the time I had this squashed inside my backpack and it shook out with barely a wrinkle. This hat was exactly what I wanted. Great value. It fit as expected and I adore that it comes in sizes!

I've worn this type of hat for many years but had to stop because the quality of the ones I found had seriously declined; they were either of poor construction or a mix of cotton and a plastic cloth such as polyester which I hate.I stumbled across this hat and bought one on spec and I got lucky, it's perfect. 100% cotton and a good fit. (I am not a fan of universal sizes but I got lucky again with this "L/XL".). The wide brim works well. I have spent the past two days in the hot sun working and sweating and the hat did well.Being cotton the material will shrink a bit when washed but if one puts the hat on when the cloth is still damp it will stretch as it dries. If one is unfamiliar with this style of hat the brim can get a bit floppy but it is the nature of the beast. If you're not going to be working and sweating, the use of spray starch and an iron will stiffen the brim.

This hat in several colors is a hit with one of the family who kayaks frequently. He says the cotton breathes and stays more comfortable than some high-tech or artificial fabrics in high humidity. I do sew reinforcement stitching on the chin straps where they fasten to the hats, after one strap came loose during use. Other than that, the hats have held up great.

The material and construction quality of this hat seem quite good for this price. I wear a 7-3/8 fitted hat, so I ordered the large/extra large. However, it is simply huge and nearly drops over my eyebrows. Hopefully, a trip through a very hot dryer will shrink it some, but since the fabric already seems pre-shrunk, I'm not hopeful. I still plan to keep it since it could be handy in an intense sun on a boat, etc., but I don't think I'd wear it when I put the top down on my car.

The L/XL was too large on me, and I was unsure the next size down would fit at all. But this was one awesome, if somewhat slightly heavy duty, lid. I am surprised to discover how important it is to have LABLES on products that outlast the product itself. But if finding a proper replacement for my favorite canvas floppy hat is the biggest issue I have, it's no fault of the folks who made this unit. Their hat was a thing of beauty and sight to behold, just too big for my noggin.
