A Little Book About Safety

I have a friendly child who just started kindergarten. On our walk to school each morning she happily greets everyone we pass. I’ve been on the lookout for a good book on safety book that will impart good advice about strangers without scaring her. I found this book mentioned in reviews for other books and gave it a try. I’m so glad I did! My daughter actually enjoys the book and it explains things in a way that aren’t scary, but make sense for her. She actually enjoys rereading it and we have discussions on each of the safety topics. I really like how they handled the stranger danger issue.There are other safety points covered as well, all of which are great!

Its a thin paperback without any page numbers or table of contents. So if you want to review a particular rule, you have to flip through the whole thing. I liked that the book brought up rules that can be hard to explain to kids. But I felt the book was very short. The hippo also losses sight of his mommy and daddy... so he has to say his phone number to get back with his parents... which is something not every kid can do well. Overall, there are just not enough rules here to make the book worth the price I paid, but it will be useful. If its under five bucks maybe its worth picking up.

Great introduction to several areas of safety, like learning your phone number, letting know an adult where you are going in crowded places, what to do if lost, etc. Each area could be expanded more but this is great as a first safety book. I like how the safety tips are numbered, so yo can review them later with the child. There is also a video online that has the animated story, which is great to watch after reading the book.

Nice book for starting to talk with a 4-year-old about the basics of safety

Great safety book I used for kindergarteners and 1st graders in my classroom guidance classes. It is informative, but yet simple wording for the little ones. My students really enjoyed reading the book.

Love this book for reinforcing important safety practices

Great book! - lovely safety explanations that make it easy to understand for young children.

I felt that this book focused more on children learning their parents contact info rather than all aspects of safety like I was expecting. I read it to my 3yr old may be 2x and he doesn't seem too interested.

Like the various lessons that can be learned about staying safe (getting lost, avoid going anywhere with strangers, privacy of their body, etc.) and the illustrations are nice.

We read this book over and over and change the names. My daughter loves it!

My son loves the story and started asking for our phone numbers.
