can his head move into his shell

No. The neck is sewed so you can move the mouth and two legs, but you can not pull the head into the shell. There is a baby turtle and a large turtle than can pull the heads into the shell.

can you make the head tuck in the shell?

Not really.....the head will pull back slightly into the shell but not like a regular turtle. If you want a turtle where the head will go all the way into the shell order Folkmanis' Turtleneck Turtle puppet.

How do you make his mouth move

You put your hand in the top and thumb in the bottom. Moves easily. He has been a great hit with the kids at church. I love puppets and this one I can use and so can the young kids.

Soft and very cute

This puppet is adorable. It is small and doesn't come all the way past my wrist but is very soft and very cute. I had to order another one for a friend who is using it for her work. (she works with troubled children). You can move it's mouth and it's little hands.
