Easy to learn!
My son loves his Otamatone! He has learned how to play many game theme songs!

Fun instrument, need a lot of practice
I love this cute instrument. I have a smaller version of this, but that one is just too small to play notes accurately. Like other kinds of musical instrument, you really need to practice in order to make good sounding music.I can't get the android phone app to work, but it works fine with Thumbjam on my iPad. It's really fun to piano on this thing!

The one I bought is very expandable when you download some of the apps that go with it
Haven’t used it much but I got it to add special effects in some kids songs.

Start with the smaller less expensive Otamatone
I first purchased the smaller tone and was immediately into the uniqueness of it. It had little downsides such as the play area is small for an adult and the sound was somewhat monotonous so unless you're the one playing it it can be annoying for others so the headphones and much larger size along with the promise of new sounds via the app drew me into spending the +100 for this model. The neck playing area is pretty sweet for playing. The headphone jack really allowed me to practice but the app is pretty miserable. Took a day and a half to figure out. Once I did I could only get a proper volume with my headphones plugged in and the variety of sounds really wasn't that great. I would've been happy paying more for the app to get more. Some of the settings were terrible, hence the 3 stars. So close

Great quality, hard to play.
Great little instrument! Well built and the sound quality is decent. Being able to plug headphones in is really useful if other people find the sound annoying. A heads up before purchasing though: It’s easy to learn the basics, but it’s very difficult to master.
