The Tough Master 2 pack of tactical LED flashlights is an impressive bit of kit, you get two relatively small quality aluminium flashlights with an adjustable beam, two 18650 1200mA batteries, 2 AAA adapters, a USB powered lithium battery charger and a tough storage case.The lithium batteries are preinstalled but there is an insulating disc fitted which must be removed before you can use the torch. The lithium battery charger charges at around 0.5A, so it could take around 2.5 hours to fully charge a battery.The torches have a belt clip which can be removed if desired but be aware that the screw holes extend inside the casing so they would require plugging.There are 3 static levels of brightness plus one strobe mode and one SOS mode, these are selected by short presses (don’t click) on the power button, alternatively cycling the power on and off, by clicking the power button, will also allow you to cycle through the modes of operation.The torch is quite bright on the highest setting and can also be quite useful on the low setting if you narrow the beam.I don’t believe that these torches provide 800 lumens based on looking at the Cree XM-L2 data sheet and measuring the current, I think somewhere between 400 to 500 Lumens is more realistic.Also the claimed 2 hour runtime on full brightness isn’t very likely either given that I measured the full brightness current to be 0.92A and the battery supplied is only 1.2A. As you reduce the brightness, the current halves, so medium brightness draws 0.46A from the battery and minimum brightness draws 0.23A.These torches aren’t bad value for money given that they come with lithium batteries and a charger and they are still fairly bright.

These torches arrived packed in a tough storage case in their own branded cardboard box.The case contains:• 2 x torches.• 2 x 1200mAh 18650 Li-Ion batteries (inside torches).• 2 x battery sleeves (inside torches).• 1 x 18650 USB charger.• 2 x AAA battery adaptors.• Instructions.These torches appear to be tough, well made and feel good in the hand. On arrival the batteries are stored inside the torches. Underneath the screw cap at the base there is a cardboard insulator disc that needs to be removed before using the torches.The on/off button is on the base and a quick press cycles through the different modes (bright, medium, low, strobe, SOS). Most torches of this type go on to the mode after the last used one when switched on, but if this torch is switched off for more than 5 seconds it always starts in ‘bright’ mode.The beam is focussed by sliding the head forward and back on the body. I have a few similar torches and this mechanism is usually a bit too loose. On these torches it is nice and firm. The beam is bright and strong with a coolish colour temperature. Throw is excellent when focussed to narrow beam.The battery sleeves are to prevent the supplied 18650 batteries rattling around in the tube. This is because the torches can also house a 21700 battery if longer battery life is required (21700 batteries are available up to 5000mAh). I have tried a 21700 with no problems. If you do put other batteries in these torches I would suggest getting protected cells as this will prevent over discharge (and possible damage) of the battery.The manual states that the battery life is 2 hours on full brightness with the batteries supplied but this could easily be doubled or tripled by fitting a higher capacity 18650 or 21700 battery.A nice touch is the supplied AAA battery converters that would allow the torches to be run on readily available AAA batteries if required.The charger supplied can only charge a single (18650) battery at a time and needs to be plugged into an available USB socket. A 21700 will not fit in this charger.These are good, tough torches and at £17.99 for two they are good value considering the extras that are supplied with them.
