Sturdy and does the job.
Both one for my 10'6" kayak. I use this rack on my 2004 Expedition. Some stated that the bolts were too long. I haven't had an issue with the roof touching the bolts. My roof also has small indents the length of it for what seems to be rain channels. I positioned the rack over these for added room when securing to the cross bars. I use the stock cross bars and they help up while towing a camper and to the shore and back (round trip 300 miles). I also used the supplied tie down straps. They seem very strong to me. My OEM cross bars have a small hole at either side for what looks to be matched strap hooks. If you position the straps correctly, I can tie the excess strap in these holes for added security. No issues with them coming loose either. Just make sure the square head seats all the way down. If not I could see this coming loose after some driving. I bought the last set so I purchased another from eBay and it's identical to this one. Instructions are a little lacking but one can easily figure this out.

Disappointed, but …
Loved the price.Assembly was hard … as they say, you get what you pay for. Assembly was a pain in the butt. Many of The holes didn’t line up all the way. So I used a tiny screw driver to wedge the top of bolt in and vice grips to pull it through. Took me way too long (about 2 hours and three beers) to put this together. However … once the product was put together, it was great and easy to put on my crossbar and it’s held up just fine while driving.

It is sturdy and the kayak didn't budge on a long trip
Our roof racks are a bit deeper than others so this provided more flexibility and fit well. It is sturdy and the kayak didn't budge on a long trip. There are very few words on the instructions, so putting it together was a bit like puzzle. I suggest taking some time before use to put it together. Other than that, it does the job and I would buy another one from them.

Exceedingly difficult to assemble
I tend to be pretty good with my hands and tools and such, but the assembly on this thing was infuriating. As you can see from the photos, the assembly essentially involves create 2 brackets -- each one of which is comprised of 3 pieces -- the long tube part, the short tube part, and a rubber piece that holds it all together. The short tube piece has 3 bolt holes, and the long one has 1. The bolt holes are square cut to accommodate carriage bolts. When assembling, you slide the rubber piece over the short metal piece, the align the long piece and slide it over the top, all while fitting it in the rubber piece. It's not as easy as it sounds.Once you get the pieces assembled, you need to insert the carriage bolts and slide them through the holes. The holes in the rubber part don't line up properly, which means that the carriage bolts can't drop into the square holes, meaning that they pretty much can never get tightened without an outrageous amount of work. That is for 4 of the bolts. The last 2 bolts hold together the bottom of the bracket, which you need to take apart to attach it to the luggage rack of the car. Since the rubber doesn't line up properly, once again the carriage bolts can't drop down into their holes, so the bracket never tightens up around the luggage rack. This part is easy enough to fix -- I'm going to purchase different bolts, and put a nut on it that will be underneath the bracket to pull the carriage bolt in. Once that is done, then it should be able to be tightened. Also, the boxing of this was deplorable. I'm pretty surprised that I wasn't missing parts.Overall, I'd say that this is mediocre quality, and overly frustrating to assemble. If this had been a Prime purchase, I would have sent it back without a second thought, but since it wasn't, I don't feel like giving up the (excessive) shipping fee, as well as any return shipping that I may have to pay.If you are determined to buy this, I'm going to recommend that you go ahead and cut the top holes in the rubber pieces to be at least 1/4" larger than they are. Things probably would have worked out better if I had tried that first.

Important assembly tip!
Assembly was a pain, but I was able to get it done with the bolts that came with it with these steps. The issue is that the carriage bolts are held on with locknuts. The square bit under the carriage bold head has to fit into square holes On top of the crossbars to prevent the bolt from spinning while tightening the lock nuts. To do this, the bolts have to be pulled through the rubber carrier. This is impossible by hand. Here’s how I did It:take the provided wrench, laugh, and throw it away. Each rack uses 4 lock nuts and 2 regular nuts. I used a 9/16 deep socket and the regular nuts to pull each bolt through the rubber carrier and into the square hole by tightening the regular nut all the way, then taking it off. Some of the bolts did catch the rubber a bit on the way in, but I kept going and the pulled through. I then used a 1/2 inch deep socket to tighten the lock nuts on the short bolts. It required putting the nuts on twice. I tried using just the nylock nut but couldn’t get enough torque by hand.
