Deluxe RV Refrigerator Evaporator Fan w/LED & Grill
C**N
Decent fans, extremely easy to install, even with very poor instructions.
For the money, this fan set is well worth the expense. If time is worth anything, it would be hard to duplicate in the home workshop for the price. The LEDs are sort of silly--they really don't add enough light to help find anything in the frig. Maybe some would find them useful. But there is a switch, so that one can choose whether to leave them on or turn them off, and in any event they don't draw any measurable power. It was fairly easy to install by anyone with even the slightest mechanical ability, although I have to say that the instructions are awful. I installed it in a new small (3.8 cu.ft.) Dometic 3-way. At first I tried to wire it to the hot side of the refrigerator light switch. But the fan draws enough current that the "door open" warning circuitry would activate with the door closed, as the circuitry interpreted that the light was on, setting off the alarm. So I redid the wiring and fed it down through the condensate drain, where it was easy to wire to the 12V connections under the refrigerator. Incidentally, that's actually much easier to do than to wire it to the frig light circuitry. If I'd done that at first, the whole thing would have been a 15 minute job. As it was, it took me about half an hour to wire to the frig light circuit, then 15 minutes to unwire it and reinstall the frig light, then another 15 minutes to feed the wire thought the condensate tube and wire to the 12V connections, total 1 hour. Any technician who either can't do the job or charges for more than half an hour of time really is cheating the customer, it's that easy. The fans are somewhat noisy with the door open, but there's a barely audible hum with the door closed. I may turn off the fans at night if the hum proves to be annoying, since there'll be less need for the benefits of the fans once the sun is down. Because the rig is brand new, the refrigerator hasn't been used yet, other than to hold excess Thanksgiving fixings, so I really don't know how necessary these fans will be. However, I've used absorption refrigerators in the past, and two of the common complaints, which I've experienced, are uneven cooling and frost forming on the cooling fins. If these fans do their job as expected, both of those issues will be gone. One other thing: I recommend pulling the refrigerator's 12V fuse while doing the wiring. I didn't at first, and blew that fuse (4 amp automotive fuse). I didn't count the time it took to run to the auto supply store, because if I'd either been smart and pulled it first, or if I'd had a supply of fuses, no time would have been lost. Also, contrary to the instructions, the fins on my refrigerator don't appear to be grounded, so that when I wired to the hot side of the door light switch, it was necessary to run a ground wire. All in all, this fan set should make using any absorption refrigerator much more pleasant by eliminating the usual complaints.

Keeps the fridge cool
Sellers video makes it sound like it's supposed to work while door is closed. It does not. I cut off the plastic lever that shuts off the light when door is closed so it will stay on. Also removed light bulb since the heat from the bulb being on did seem to heat things up in there and don't really need the bulb on anyways since the fan has the LED light. Definitely helps keep the fridge cold in Texas heat!

It seems that living with my RV refrigerator, is better with it, than without it.
As a newer RVer, I don't know if I need it. My frig has never been on long enough to need defrosting, but the refrigerator section sure could benefit from better air distribution to help it cool down faster/evenly (the freezer drops relatively quickly to below freezing on its own). In this case, I am trusting all of the positive reviewers on its benefits. The unit is smaller than I expected for such a big benefit, and it looks good. While my frig section already has a light, I didn't need the built-in light, but, I wanted the better bearings. There is a switch to turn the light off. Great! Likewise, there is a switch to turn the fans off when not needed, so power consumption can be highly regulated. I look forward to never knowing the disadvantages of not having this unit! Will update this review with experience, or, if it proves otherwise.Update 04/12/2018 - After a month and a half of continuous frig use, these are my findings in a Norcold 1200-LRIM:1. The frig section cools much faster with it on that with it off,2. With it on, the frig can be used at ~two clicks "less cold" setting and still maintain desired temps than with it off,3. The cooling fins frosts up much faster with it on than with it off, but, defrosting happens very quickly with it on by turning off the frig and leaving the door closed. So, I saw the reverse of what many reviewers report relative to defrosting, however, with it on, the defrost cycle happens much faster/easier than with it off. Likewise, I was surprised by the necessity to use a "less cold" setting on the frig. It would be interesting to be able to track overall power/LPG consumption with it on versus with it off at the "more cold" setting.

Good product but....
This is a good product, but plan on getting two of them. If you have just one, you get no airflow on the rest of the evaporator fins and it builds up ice. You need to install two of these side by side to get good airflow across the whole evaporator.instructions say to run power wire through drain hole and do not drill a hole in your refrigerator. The drain hole is way too small and will complicate draining. I just drilled a hold above the glass right above my bottom drawer out the side so I wouldn't hit anything. I sealed the hole with silicone and used adhesive pads to zip tie the cords uo neatly. I then stole the required 12 vdc power from the control board. works perfectly with two fan assemblies.

Careful with the light fixture wiring.
Check out the picture of my light fixture to see the kind of light YOU CANNOT USE to directly wite this fan. The instructions like other reviews here say are NOT very clear. I had to push the wires through the temperature probe hole in the back of the fridge and wire the fan DIRECTLY to the 12 VOLT lines ( on mine they were purple and white / red and black). Before I did that. I tried to wire the fan right onto the light fixture AND IT BLEW OUT THE 3 AMP FUSE on the bottom left corner of the board. Luckly I had more and realised my mistake. It's working well now. Worth not having to replaced D batteries in the smaller fan I used to have.

Good people to deal with.
I bought this item to help with cooling the RV refrigerator. When I read the instructions and went to drop the wires down from the top vent they wouldn't drop through I pulled a panel out to see what was blocking it I saw four fans part way down to the bottom vent. I realized that I didn't need the fans and couldn't get them in. I returned them without any trouble. And was thankfull for there consideration and the refund.
