Disappointing
This (very) slim volume was a disappointment. The quality of reproduction is poor and the commentary is the usual dull, bland art gallery lift music. There's nothing here that you can't find on Wikipedia.

Too short for the money
The writing and quality of the book is great, but it's tiny. I paid around £16 for a book that is roughly the size of a Ladybird kids book. It would be a good buy at around the £7 mark.

An excellent book for art-lovers
Yes I had read many art books, but still I found this book pretty fun to read. It is very informative. Not only does it share the author's insight into some great paintings, but also it delivers great stories about the artists and the context of the paintings creation. I highly recommend the book. It costs just no more than a cup of coffee but it delivers much more pleasure to you than a coffee does.

Concise essays with color photos that illuminate the details & hidden messages of art
This small paperback is a highly readable series of short essays on 16 masterpieces with color photos. It’s like going on a private tour with an art expert. His profound insights are simply amazing. It is well worth its purchase price. The other 2 books in the series are also excellent.

Lovely & entertaining read
Very personal perspective on art, based on short essays about seminal western European paintings. Surprisingly good images on Kindle for iPad. Highly recommend for an afternoon read.

Great Paintings Explained
Initially I was disappointed that the illustrations were in black & white, but the context of the book is so good, I can easily overlook that. Items were easily explained.
