I've been wanting a home theater audio setup in my basement for a while now so when these speakers went on sale in June I snagged them. I paired them with an Onkyo receiver I got used from a friend, and after a couple hours of mucking around in my ceiling we got everything set up and calibrated.Before I talk about the audio, I'd like to describe the speakers themselves, which are quite good looking. The fabric coverings are quite high quality, the plastic cases are unobtrusive and nice looking, and the sub will vanish surprisingly well with good placement. The speakers hang by two screw slots, and are light enough to put almost anywhere. I put my front speakers directly on the wall and my back speakers on shelves so they could be turned into the room.There are only two issues when mounting the speakers, and in fact these are the only issues in general. First, while the spring clips you connect your speaker wire to are big and easy to use, there is no channel for the wire in the back of the speaker housing. In other words, if you want the speakers mounted directly to the wall (which looks great, by the way) you'd better run your wire through the wall too because the wire needs to come out DIRECTLY behind the speaker. Second, the speakers can only wall-mount facing straight out, so if you don't have walls on both sides of your viewing area, you will need shelves like I got. I am not dinging the item any stars for this as these are both common issues in surround sound speakers, and I don't want to gripe too much about 80 dollar speakers......Especially when they sound so good! In spite of their size, there is not a trace of tinniness to these speakers, and properly calibrated via your receiver, they will provide SEAMLESS surround sound. I just let a movie play the other night and walked between them; except when a sound was meant to come from a certain direction it was almost impossible to tell that what I was hearing was coming from any one speaker. Even when you listen to a basic stereo or mono video, the audio will fill a small space very effectively. And when you do watch something in 5.1, the quality is really excellent. It may sound like an odd choice, but when I showed my son one of the Thomas the Tank Engine films last night (yes there are Thomas MOVIES, and yes they are in 5.1) the distribution and depth of audio was really spot on.If you have a small to midsized room, I would not hesitate to buy these speakers, even at full price. They are an outstanding value. Just be aware that you will need a receiver to use them (or any device with 5.1 output, I suppose).

These are great speakers for a relatively small room (the room I put these in is about 14x14). They sound much better than I expected, especially considering the price these are being sold for. I was very skeptical about buying these, but couldn't afford the $400 for the Energy speakers that I wanted. So I settled for these, and I'm not disappointed at all in my decision. I paired these with an Onkyo HT-RC360 and, after about 2 hours of tweaking the sound, couldn't be happier. The included speaker wire is very thin, so plan to spend a few extra dollars for at least 16-gauge wire. The sub is powered, and is more than sufficient - it throws a lot of bass for its size. It sounds pretty decent with streaming music too, but it really shines when watching movies with a 'bright' soundtrack, that typically accompanies movies with lots of action sequences. I also hooked up a Playstation 3 to the receiver...the soundtrack on Gran Turismo 5 is like night and day...simply amazing, compared to when it was hooked up directly to the TV, with the sound coming from the TV speakers. It's true that you get what you pay for. There are better-sounding speakers out there, but for the price and capability, you cannot beat these at this price point...especially if your intent is to watch movies; and not as an audiophile, listening to music mainly with a critical ear on the musician's performance. Highly recommended if you meet the following criteria:1. Have a relatively small room (14x14)2. Plan to pair with a decent receiver, for the purpose of watching movies mainly (and playing games), while listening to music on occasion via streaming Audio, connecting an iPod, etc.3. A budget of $140 (this includes the speakers and 2 spools of 16-guage wire, at 14 dollars a spool)The package arrives very well-packed, and the speakers themselves are contained in a plastic housing, but substantial. I mounted the satellites on Atlantic speaker stands. The satellites are light enough that you can mount on the stands with double-sided tape, and still have a very secure mount. As with any set of speakers, it is critical that they are all positioned and calibrated correctly, so that you get optimum performance from them. Expect to spend at least 3-4 hours: 2 hours to unpack, position the speakers, strand speaker wire, and connect; and another 1-2 calibrating distance, and volume, to your preference.5 stars for price, quality, and value.

Been using these for over a month now with great results. Very good sound, especially for the price. The manual adjust on the subwoofer is nice too for when you want to dial the bass up or down on the fly. If you're looking for a solid 5.1 system that doesn't break the bank, this is it
