Overall a good rope, but really a 3/8” rope not 1/4” and diameter otherwise inconsistent in spots
We order this rope frequently as a component of our handmade wooden plant hangers. Why this particular rope? Well, the business was handed on to us when my husband’s boss retired - this is the rope he always used, and my husband seems loathe to switch.I recently ordered a different brand of 1/4” Manila hemp rope that had decent reviews and was somewhat cheaper; boy, was that a disaster! Not ‘cause the new rope had anything wrong with it, it was just as described. However, my husband immediately started hollering that it was too thin! Why, when, as I said, it was as described? Because what T.W. Evans claims is 1/4” rope is really 3/8”! See the photo for a side by side comparison of this rope and the other brand.Admittedly I had always thought that the 1/4” demarcation seemed off, but as I am not in the business of ordering rope other than specifically for this project or the stuff I use for my handmade jewelry (which rarely exceeds 2mm in diameter, and, as such, is not really rope, more like thread, string, and cord!), I figured perhaps there was some reason particular to the industry I was not aware of.But, nope. 1/4” rope from the other company was actually 1/4”. And while that wasn’t a problem so far as the weight limit we specify for our product as we were going off specs for 1/4” rope, my husband thought that visually it would not appear as strong to customers as the purportedly 1/4” but in actuality 3/8” T.W. Evans rope.My personal business issues aside… otherwise, the T.W. Evans rope is basically fine, though it is not exactly the most consistently sized rope throughout. Overall, probably a good 9/10ths of the spool or box is (we buy either 600ft or 1200ft lengths, first comes on a spool second coiled in a box), but the other 1/10th is composed of portions that get noticeably narrower or, more often, fatter. Hopefully it’s needless to say that these portions are interspersed throughout the entire length of rope - and inevitably, smack in the middle of the length you are trying to cut instead of more conveniently between cuts. It doesn’t get so thin that we’ve had any issues with breakage, but it has led to problems fitting it through the hole in our hangers. Definitely leads to a certain amount of wastage when we have to toss a section cause it won’t fit. Whether or not this would present an issue for you is fairly application specific - I wouldn’t order it for anything that doesn’t leave a good amount of wiggle room so far as the weight rating or in which mismatched size differences would be noticeable and aesthetically displeasing, eg a cat scratch post.Otherwise, the rope doesn’t have that much of an odor, and any it might have initially wears off quickly. It’s not super smooth and has a fair amount of fiber ends sticking out, but that should be expected given the grade. As previously mentioned, the 600 ft lengths come on a spool and the 1200 ft lengths coiled in a box; both are easy to use without the rope getting tangled (with the box version, be careful when opening and first use - find the end in the center of the coil and pull from there, not from the end on the outside of the coil or you will regret it!).Otherwise, product has always arrived quickly and we have been otherwise satisfied.

Terrible smell
I got this rope for the apartment's pipe but ewww just no. I cant stand at the smell of this rope. It's just super plastic smell and if I dare to be close to it I start sneezing... I feel bad because it look good but I just cant stand at this rope :(

A great deal on great rope.
This was great cordage for my Boy Scouts. We used it to learn our knots, make rope tackle and lash structures together. The The natural fiber made the traditional knots easy to learn. My rope had a natural smell, it was not oily. It had a tighter weave and better “feel” than what was available at Home Depot. I would definitely buy again!

EXACTLY what I was looking for and needed
Got this for Boyscouts and it is perfect for whatever we use it for (mostly knots and lashings). Plus there are many other options of length and width. Will be buying some more rolls to replace all our other old miscellaneous rope. And the price is right. Perfect

Perfect rope for decorating
This rope is just as advertised and it is excellent for decorating. I needed to wrap a metal supporting column with something natural, but durable. The spool I got was a consistent color and width, which worked well for the entire project. It's strong and very durable, so it's probably great for other rope uses.

Fast shipping, good quality
Used it to wrap a column so my cats could climb/scratch on it. it worked well. Wood return to this vendor if I do it again.

Good spool
Good product, seems to be a good price.Unlike other long lengths of rope and twine I've bought on Amazon the spool has sturdy ends and was shipped fine. Hopefully it will hold together for a few years.I've had other rolls of rope and twine which I've had to rewind on my own spools. And no noticeable odor.
