Read this BEFORE you start getting your house ready to sell!
Am I ever glad I read this before I started getting my house ready to sell! My first step is giving each room a fresh coat of paint. But instead of the neutral colors I had chosen, I am following the advice in the book for colors and how to choose them according to the emotions I want to create in prospective buyers. The further I read, the more confident I became that I just might get my house sold - even in this troubled economy. Although I have heard of staging, I didn't think it could make such a big difference but now I know that staging appropriately will give me a much better chance of someone choosing to buy it. And once the author explained the need for depersonalizing, I will be following those suggestions as well. While that is going to be one of the hardest parts of this whole process, I think it will be worth it and I really appreciated the tips on ways to make that aspect easier on my family - especially the kids. I am just grateful that I read this before I put a lot of work into preparing to put my house up for sale so I can do it right the first time around.

Very generic tips
This book was very repetitive concerning cleaning, decluttering and hiding pets. These were tips i’d already read online. What i’d hoped for were pictures of mistakes in furniture arrangement and correct after pictures. No pictures are included, not even diagrams. What I liked best about the book was the beautiful cover that enticed me to buy it. Anyone can find these tips by searching the internet. I’m sorry I wasted my money.

Staging without stress!!
Love this book. We are considering downsizing and started to make a checklist of what we needed to do in order to move from our home of over 30 years. I spoke to an agent and they mentioned Home Staging to me. I had no idea what was involved but this book took me from start to finish in a very clean and easy to follow format. When I first heard the term I was worried that we had taken on something we could not handle but by the time I finished the book and studied the checklist I knew this was doable. Not only does the book give you the mechanics but it expresses the emotional attachments and feelings you have as a homeowner. Once I was able to see that my attachment to my home and “things” was common I was easily put into a frame of mind of being able to let go and make the changes necessary. We have time to sell our home so we will be implementing the steps in the checklist completely! Well worth the read!

Wish I Had This Earleier!
I actually had to my home on the market and it didn't sell- probably because of the market, but this book could have helped. The fact that my realtor didn't suggest that I do some of this work up front didn't help the entire process. I'd still like to sell the home I currently have, and I've already prioritized a few of the items in this book. Once I work my way through a few of these I am totally putting my home back on the market.Being in Florida, perhaps the hardest hit housing market, I really kick myself for not doing a bit more research on materials that were out there and discovering this book. It makes a lot of common sense from some perspectives, but also includes a lot of things that I would not - and had not- thought of the first time around.

Save your money and spend 20 minutes on the internet instead!
Only buy this book if you have no internet access--there is nothing useful here that you can't learn by reading internet sites for 20 minutes. At the price I paid, I was expecting a normal size book with photographs and specific ideas for staging. Instead it's a mini (5x8) size book in large type font, with under a hundred pages. All of the information in this book is available online (search for "home staging tips") and you'll find photos online that can help you if you're new at this. This book is a waste of my money and time.

An excellent resource for anyone looking to sell their home quickly at asking price.
A realtor I was considering using to sell my house mentioned the need for staging in order to get my home sold quickly. I wasn't very familiar with the process and doubted that I really needed to do something like that - until I read this book. Now I understand how truly important it is for me to take staging seriously and how much it can affect the sale of my home and the price I'm asking for. Needless to say, the step-by-step directions on how the entire staging process goes will be very helpful as I get ready to sell this house!
