Ribbit! The Truth About Frogs

Engaging info + eye-popping photos and illustrations
I’ll start my review with a quiz: Do frogs quack? Most certainly not—or so I thought. Then I read Ribbit! The Truth About Frogs, by Annette Whipple. Like earlier books in her The Truth About series (spiders, dogs, and owls), Whipple delivers engaging facts using a Q&A format. With the help of eye-popping photos and fun illustrations by Juanbjuan Oliver, Ribbit! answers questions like, How do frogs eat? Why don’t frogs freeze to death? What sounds do frogs make? This brings me back to my quiz. It turns out that one frog—the wood frog—does indeed quack. Only Pacific chorus frogs deliver that familiar "ribbit." The publisher’s official age range is 6-9 years, but I am positive younger and older kids will be captivated by this irresistible non-fiction book. I read an early review copy and immediately preordered a hard copy to have handy when visiting grandkids find frogs, which are abundant around my home. I use iNaturalist's app to identify critters we find, but that and other internet research can't compare to what Whipple's book shares with inquisitive kids (and adults).

Another great animal book from Annette Whipple
I love the photos in this book, and although written for kids, the information Annette shares is interesting and useful for adults as well. I bought Ribbit! as a gift for a granddaughter. The book jacket unfolds into a full-color poster.

Interesting, exciting, funny, and oh so fun!
Our children ADORE these books, especially our 7-year-old who struggles to sit still for a story. Whipple writes with whimsy and wonder (and a good dose of humor!) and the pictures and illustrations are absolutely fabulous. I've recommended these books to all my parent friends and we now own the entire series! Some of the best nonfiction books for kids I've come across. Our kids are 4, 7, and 10, and each of them have connected with Ribbit!

FROGS! FUN! PHOTOS! FACTS! A fantastic froggy adventure for the whole family!
Ribbit! The Truth About Frogs is packed full of frogs, fun, and facts. I love, love, love this book, and I will read it to all my grandchildren and great grandchildren; and it will be on my coffee table with Annette Whipple’s other books in The Truth About Animals series; and I will use it with homeschool curriculum materials. An exciting science adventure that will surely delight readers of all ages, it is so much more than a just book. Parents, grandparents, teachers, homeschoolers, and especially kids will be pulled to the nearest pond to check it all out. Ribbit! The Truth About Frogs is a picture book, a child’s favorite book, even a bedtime book, a coffee table book, a classroom unit study, a gift.

Homeschooling
My 11yr old daughter wanted to learn about frogs so we ordered a few frog books and a frog dissecting kit to go together. This book is good! I love the illustrations! The books is appealing and interesting with a little humor in fun facts. This book will definitely teach you all about frogs and the importance of them. I’m glad we bought it!I hate ordering books without knowing a little about what’s inside so I have included pictures for others to see.

Fun, Informative, and Frog-tastic!
Like a frog's eyes, this book is bulging with information and fun photos for every curious reader. Although "Ribbit! The Truth About Frogs" is targeted for children ages 6-9, the three year old in our home also loves the inviting pictures and fun-filled layouts. I've learned new things, too. Every year, our family tracks the growth of tadpoles in a small pond, so we especially enjoy the pages about metamorphosis. You can't go wrong with this beautiful STEM book about frogs!

The Truth about the "Truth About" Series!
As each of Annette Whipple's "Truth About" books come out, another is being written! Our grandchildren have almost worn out my copy of "Whoooo Knew - the Truth about Owls," and it's less than a year old. I can't wait to show them "Ribbit"! I discovered an activity we did a couple years ago is featured in her activities! They'll be delighted to read about their "toad abodes" as a part of this book. Annette not only knows her animals, but she knows kids and what will resonate with them ... no matter their age (3 ... 10 ... or 61!) I'll be pre-ordering every book she writes in this series!
