This is Animal Farm II
I read Animal Farm in high school in the 1960's. Excellent book. This is along the same line with a different message. It certainly has a contemporary theme relating to today's political culture. READ IT! Its scary as he'll. Just like American politics in early 2024. Bon Appetet!

Sing For Pearl
Where Malerman deserves the most credit with Pearl, formerly published as On This, The Day of the Pig, is in treading new ground in oft-trode horror subgenre of the creature feature. As per usual, Malerman writes a vehicle of pure imagination that couldn't have formed quite this way in any other writer's hands, yet eschews complex plot. Two words - telepathic pig. The eerie atmosphere that results and the carnage that comes to play complete the picture, making this Malerman's most straightforward (if such a thing can be said with a straight face) attempt at a classic horror story.

weird
I think the author is very good, with an incredible creativity that weaves a tale that might be a little too believable. With that comes a bit of rambling and left me feeling like maybe my lack of that much creativity made the story much less enjoyable.

Sing For Me Pearl!
I liked this story. It brought to mind Charlotte's Web and Animal Farm, only really seriously creepy. It was comical at times. I loved the characters, including Pearl and actually felt a little sorry for him in the way he was treated when he was tiny. I thought the story was interesting and enjoyed the location, including the town name of Chowder.

2.5 to 3 stars
The idea of this book had me intrigued. It sounded very interesting and I couldn’t wait to read it. Parts of the writing style of this book were too much for me to actually keep focus on the story. I found my mind drifting away and it took longer than usual for me to finish. I did like the premise of the story, though. A psychic? telepathic? pig, learning the ways of manipulation. Exacting its revenge and leaving its mark on the world and humans. Ever expanding knowledge. Pigs are smart creatures and I think the main character being a pig is fitting for the story. Definitely worth a read, although not quite for me, I still appreciate the story.

pigs?!
It was well written, that wasn’t the problem. It was the plot, had a hard time getting past the fact of the idea. A telepathic pig? Not bad at all though, a very good read!

I never thought I’d fear a pig …
I mean… congratulations goes to Josh Malerman for this one. I am astounded at how much I enjoyed Pearl. I really didn’t think I would count this as a horror book when I started it but boy was I wrong! Pearl was downright terrifying- I’m going to be seriously side-eyeing every pig at every petting zoo I go to!

Very creepy
Not sure what to say other than this book is creepy as heck. It’s the type of book that will give you nightmares and cold sweats.Just what the world needs: a sentient evil pig. I give five oinks.

Malerman rocks!
I love pretty much everything Malerman writes. His unique perspective and uncanny ability to leave you eerily disquieted and thinking about his writing long after you've turned the last page guarantees you'll be waiting impatiently for his next offering.I know I am.
