U want hot?
Holy smokes, if ur looking for something that gets super scary hot. This is it. The price was a little steep but it was here when I needed it and that makes it worth it. And really, no joke this bad boy will make u be cautious. I am sure it would brand cattle and do large, heavy stained glass. IDK how long it will last, getting that crazy hot just is not good for a tool but who cares. I will buy another when this one goes bad just to have. I wish there was a 300w iron that was much smaller. This one is huge. Positively not for small electronics or someone who has had too much coffee. This is one hot iron.

Crude, but effective
I chose the 150w version. The power rating is accurate, and it gets HOT, but the optimization of heat transfer from the heating element into the iron itself is rather abysmal. There's simply an excess gap between the tinned copper copper core (the iron) and the heating element. It takes a while, a couple-few minutes at least, for it to get up to temperature as most of the heat is immediately lost out to the sides before it ever makes it into the core of the unit. The power cord itself is ridiculous short lol. It's less than 3 feet long. Once temperature is reached, it holds enough heat to handle most tasks that a smaller/normal soldering iron can't. Keep in mind that these high powered units are rather heavy and unwieldy and that the power cord is quite short, so you will need some sort of extension in order to make this tool more usable. Besides it's unearingly long warm up times and the initial smoke that was produced, the 150w version does everything that it should. The indicator light is incredibly helpful for knowing if your iron is powered on and the unit comes with a spare iron and spare heating element, which is a nice touch. Not a high end or refined design, but it works well enough in a pinch. = )

Excellent product
Excellent product. Good quality, very powerful, can be used for heavy soldering also.

unreliable
I was surprised opening the package to find a spare heating element. But now I know why. The first element burnt out at around 1 hour of use the second one gave me 10 minutes. I'm past the return window or this thing would be going back.Additionally, the cord is ridiculously short and rather thick even though the wires inside are quite thin. This combination made using the unit pretty awkward.

Smoke is expected. No big deal. Very heavy. Way bigger and better than I had expected.
Smoke is expected. No big deal. Very heavy. It's not for a small job at all and it's as long as my forearm. Way bigger and better than I had expected. It desoldered and resoldered these huge connections on these junk Chinese battery connections where they made huge solder blobs on the main terminals. I tried several other soldering irons and none made a dent. This thing melted it right away. Highly recommended.

Gets too hot, needs a temperature controller. Tip wore very quickly and resisted tinning.
I got this iron to do a repair on the cap of a Tiffany lampshade. I solder electronics a lot and know how to clean and tin the tip. Despite cleaning the tip with flux and tinning it, the tip wouldn't stay shiny like it does on a quality electronics iron. I suspect it gets too hot and just burns up the surface.By the time I was done, about an hour of soldering, the tip had a big gouge worn in the middle. They do give you a spare tip, but if you're going to use this long-term, you should invest in a temperature controller or perhaps just a better quality iron.To be fair, it was 1/4 the cost of an equivalent Weller iron, so you get what you pay for. In the end, it did do the job, but as shipped would not last very long.
