Treasure in Clay: The Autobiography of Fulton J. Sheen

Must read
America needs another Bishop Sheen. This book is wonderful and I am currently still reading it. It is just a wholesome story that makes me sad because there are no more Fulton Sheens anywhere. We must pray for our priests and for an increase in vocations to the priesthood.

A Real Treasure. Thank You Bishop Sheen!
When I was just a boy of about twelve I was the adopted son of my Grandparents. They weren’t Catholic, I wasn’t anything religious. However I have to reflect that I probably was converted to the Catholic faith a little later from the fact that every Sunday evening my Grandparents and I sat, watched and listened to Bishop Sheen’s black and white TV broadcast. Reading his audio biography has brought back those wonderful memories.

An inspirational journey
I bought this book as a result of reading My Uncle Fulton Sheen since I was so inspired by the stories told in it that had originated from Treasure in Clay. I wanted to read Treasure in Clay to learn even more about the life of Archbishop Sheen and it has done just that there are so many inspiring things in this book. There are serious life lessons taught with humility and at times humor that really helped me strengthen my faith as a Catholic. I would highly recommend this book to anyone and it just goes to show exactly why Archbishop Fulton Sheen deserves to be declared a saint in the Catholic Church.I also purchased the audible version along with the Kindle version. I think the priest who narrated the book is an excellent job and it was a real joy to listen to it.

SHEEN is believable, detailed and often inspiring in reviewing his life journey.
I'm glad I went to the expense and time expenditure to read this very long tome. I had met Archbishop Sheen twice in my life, and even helped him to mount a table at the student canteen at Rosemont College for a more casual get together after formal academic assembly - which happened twice a year because we and our SSND faculty were a special interest of his.I believe he was genuinely devout, devoted to the person of OUR SAVIOUR, and empowered by his daily Holy Hour with the Blessed Sacrament. It was a worthwhile visit to his mental/spiritual/emotional reality and to have that much more to integrate in appreciating his life and service. In his final days, he met JPII when the latter visited St Patrick's Cathedral in NYC, and heard him say "You have written and spoken well about Our Lord" - only days before he died (during his daily Holy Hour, in his private chapel in his small NYC retirement apartment).

Very informative funny and touching
I had read some of Ven. Apb. Sheen's books (This is the Mass, These Are the Sacraments, Life of Christ) and am old enough to remember his TV show. This book, however, fills in many gaps in my understanding of his life. I am amazed at his formation and subsequent ministries. I am also edified by his humility in admitting his shortcomings as a Bishop. He truly knew what it meant to be a priest; a victim, and the understanding he gained by his daily holy hours is apparent. The incidents and anecdotes he uses to show the reader about human nature--our needs, joys and sorrows are won only through experience, and help us to understand the mercy of God and the noble calling of our life on earth--to know, love and serve God. He is also very humorous, and is a good story teller. The most touching moments are at the end of the book, when, while suffering from heart disease, illness and old age, he is embraced by Bl. John Paul II. The pictures in the book are a wonderful summary of his life. The eulogy given at his funeral is also worth reading. In all, a challenging and helpful book meant to be read more than once.

Inspiring words like you never hear anymore
Bishop Sheen was a gifted speaker and author who had a gift. That gift was the ability to speak about God without being boring or fake. He was the real deal. He never talked down to you, or made you wish you were somewhere else. And he had a great sense of humor. Millions of us watched him on prime time television, back in the day. He was that good. Try him. You mightfind yourself enjoying him like we did, before the world got soself-absorbed and upset over every little thing.

A great read
What a life this person led. He was always concerned about the other person and was there to lead them to the Lord.

Sensacional! Inspirador!

We are the "clay". The Eucharist—consecrated Bread & Wine—is the Treasure "made in Heaven".
What I like most about Bishop Sheen's autobiography is his "plane-jane", matter-of-fact, ordinary North American style of English. Never without humour. Not without eloquence. A superb story-teller. Short paragraphs. Short sentences. Picture words often. A gifted pioneer tel-evangelist employing an electronic media-come-of-age. The "Treasure" he received daily from his "hour of power" before the Tabernacle. This Archbishop was made of humble "clay". He readily acknowledged the richer soil of worthier, perhaps unknown even hidden souls. I found each chapter an easy, leisurely, fascinating and captivating "page-turner". Let's call it a non-digital hard-copy of what was my favourite "evening news cast".

It's like I want to plant in my soul everything he ...
What a man! Bishop Sheen will forever live in the mind of every individual who reads this book. I am reading it for the third time and I am sure I will be reading it over and over and over again. It's like I want to plant in my soul everything he has written. Born for a purpose! Full of knowledge and wisdom. A man for people of all walks, a humanitarian, a teacher, a pastor and a man who spent his entire life demonstrating to the world what it means to walk in the footsteps of God. I am thankful for the privilege of meeting the man through his writings.. .
