Beast of a tool
Using this tool to reduce the side slope on some trails on steep terrain. Seems perfect for this job. The handle is quite stout and the metal head is durable. Easier to work with than a grub hoe. Not the greatest root cutter but if you angle the blade while chopping it works a little better, probably best to have an axe handy though.

DAMN!
I didn't tell my husband that I had ordered this. He came home from a run and saw it and automatically said that it would be great for trail work! We are runners and belong to a club and we clean up park trails as volunteer work among other things. Should have got two. I'm a bare foot runner so do most yard work bare foot. I WILL be wearing shoes using this one though and I don't think it will join all the other numerous hoes on the dead hoe pile soon. I was either repairing or throwing away hoes constantly working in my own gardens and a broken tool will set you back the rest of the day. I'm only 5'2" and weigh 115lbs. So this will be easier to use than my 8 lb. maul. Will make for great ab work as well as upper body while I clean my gardens of the wretched crab grass. My Renter, friend and neighbor took one look at it and said "WICKED! Hope you never aim that at me! " LOL. I love the quality steel and it actually has beveled edges that aren't going to mess around! Love it! My other little hoe that I love and is a light hoe and you can't find them in the average home and garden dept. is the 'winged hoe" Handy for delicate work up close to the plants.

Fantastic tool for cutting trail in root/vine covered hillside. Handle might be too short for you
putting in 300 feet of switchback walking trail in a hill covered with tough Ivy strands, roots etc. No one had a good solution, and several gardening crews said they did not want the job. Swinging a standard pick ax in the hot sun was brutal and very slow going. This tool cut 3 times as fast and the 5.5 blade is the perfect concentration of power for tough going. The 40 inch handle is a perfect curved geometry, love it.... because I was standing on a steep hill it was long enough but too short for flat. If you are over 6ft not sure the handle will be long enough. As others mentioned I did not see any benefit to the smaller pick side, it doesnt do anything better than the big edge. I actually put a few layers of duct tape over it because I was imagining what could happen if I fell on that thing! Keep away from kids, this is a serious tool. Id love a 46 inch handle!

Lighter than I expected but very effective
You know those thick clumps of solitary weeds you want to get rid of...the ones that have roots that go to china...well this does the job.I'm a 63 yr old petite woman and was afraid the tool would be too heavy for me...but it surprised me by being light and easy to swing. The head does all the work and since it's easy to maneuver I don't get worn out using it.Every woman should have one of these. My next project is clearing out my raised bed garden as it has become compacted and overrun with vines. The edge comes sharpened and I used my file to resharpen it after I was done. I'm thrilled as it's hard to buy some products online and get exactly what you wanted/needed but this one is a winner!

Multipurpose
Good for cleaning dirt off sawmill logs. Very sharp and well built. Cuts roots great! Bought it for building mountain bike trails and it is my favorite trail tool.

Beast
I bought this hoe in advance of a Scout service project -- widening a trail around a lake. I also brought my mattock. Other brought Pulaskis. This was far and away the most productive tool. The weight, blade shape and handle geometry make this tool a beast. I never did find a place where I needed the small end. Maybe if I were hitting hardwood roots, but I was able to sever any root with the broad end.It came sharp, but I was able to improve upon that. It will hold an edge too, but will ding if you hit a rock hard enough.Only beef is why ruin a good handle with varnish. I know almost all manufacturers do it, but I was hoping Rogue wouldn't.Certainly, I will look at Rogue for other tools in the future.
