Captivating, Informative, beautifully written
I loved Anne Sloan’s story, both its setting in history and its lively and adventurous characters. I read it in one sitting, something I have never done, not only to determine the plot outcome, but also to learn what choice Phillis, the main character, made. Her skillful descriptions made everything seem alive and real. I highly recommend it!!

A Paean to 1920s Feminism
Anne Sloan creates a female fictional character whose ambition is considered unusual for her time. Eight years after the passage of the 19th Amendment, the protagonist, Phillis, a journalist for the Star-Telegram, becomes a paean to the feminist spirit of her day. Capturing the politics and drama of the 1928 Democratic convention in Houston, Sloan brings the period and conflicts to life in a historically accurate and enchanting way. Miriam K. A Very Well Written And Informative Read
A very well written and researched work of historical fiction. I learned a lot about the 1928 election, the wet and dry wings of prohibition, the Democratic National Convention and grass roots Texas politics. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and it stimulated me into researching the election in more detail.
