I bought these to use in several cards. They're very cute and easy. They don't get a lot of lift and just last a couple of seconds but they are a nice surprise to add inside a greeting card. The kids loved them and figured out how to make them fly by themselves after they flew out of their cards. They're inexpensive since you get 5 individually wrapped butterflies. I'd buy them again.

These are fun and I used them as a "surprise element" in Christmas packaging. They wind easily and will fly upward 12-18" upon release. These would not be good as "toys", but are rather a novelty item. They do break, and I broke two of them by winding the 20-times reccommended and having the plastic frame break.

The butterflies are very pretty and made well, however, they don't fly as described. The mechanism is a rubber band with an attachment that you twist to make wings flutter. The flutter lasts a split second and the flight is over. Good idea but doesn't work. Very disappointed. I will keep them and repurpose as decorations. Edited my comments as my friends followed the directions implicitly and were happy with their results.

These come in different, beautiful colors. I tried one by winding it the recommended 40 times, placed it inside a card, then opened the card and the butterfly flew very high and survived the fall! I am hoping they survive being mailed through the US Post Office - fingers crossed! But if you are handing the card to someone personally, it is a great, fun surprise!

What was supposed to be a cute idea in a card ruined a special day. The butterfly exploded out of the card and hit the recipient in the face, before wrapping furiously around her long hair. It was completely tangled up and incredibly painful to try and extricate. The instructions to spin it 40 times are unnecessary - 20 or so is plenty to make it flutter out. Worse is the stupid notion to have it pointed head out of the card. People open cards looking toward them, not with them opened toward the ceiling. Following the instructions is sure to get the recipient struck right in the face and raises the possibility of eye injuries, especially with the 40 rotations suggestion which results in an explosive and violent reaction when the unit activates. Fewer spins and having the butterfly pointed head up instead of out would be much safer and not turn a special day into a disaster!

My kids loved playing with these! They thought it was so cool. The butterflies dont exactly fly but would be great for putting in a card and startling people. Be careful NOT to twist them 40 times like the directions say, though. The rubber band was stronger than the plastic. I twisted them about 20-30 times before the hooks broke.

I purchased these to be able to put into cards that I send to my butterfly loving granddaughter. Wish I could be there when she opens them. I have tested them here at home and can't wait to send one to her. All you do is wind it up (directions on the package), slide it into a letter or card, put it in the envelope and wait for it to be opened to let the fun out. They fly quite nicely. If the recipient has a small home or one with a lot of fragile items, I would not suggest winding it 40 times as the package says to help prevent any breakage of items once the butterfly is let loose.
