Jonathan Green(10362) Black Beauty Keystone PA Grass Seed (Made for Pennsylvania) - Cool Season Lawn Seed (25 lb)

I got seed only 2 months old in great condition and with cool fall rainy weather in the northeast this germinated fast! It's coming in very lush and pretty and I see it all over the yard filling things in. I'm very pleased with the product

The quality is great. It grows fast as long as you water it during the germination period. The grass grows in thick and has a wonderful appearance. I don’t know what the other reviewers are doing with their seed. But I seeded and over seed yearly with Jonathan seed. I do live in PA. but it wasn’t always branded as a PA only seed.

In the past, I’ve planted grass seed only to battle with it to sprout, fill in spots etc even after watering twice daily and babying it. Fast forward, I just added an arbor to my lawn along with some planter boxes, which required some additional soil to be placed on my lawn. I then added beautiful plantings inside the boxes, all looked great, except the fact that I needed grass around the new design. I purchased this grass seed and some straw, I planted and then went on vacation (2 weeks). I came home to growing grass! And not just sparsely growing stuff, but nice looking grass! It’s now nearing the end of the season and it looks normal, like I barely did anything. Now, just so you understand, I put at least a foot or more of new soil on top of my existing grass. From what I see, next spring it won’t even look like I had an issue! I’ve never had a seed grow so well with so little effort! I very happy with this seed.

I ordered a 3 pound bag of this. My son ordered a 10 pound bag. This did not germinate. WE put it on two different lawns according to directions, like I've done for the past 50 years. about 5 or 10 percent came up. We also ordered the same amounts in the dense shade and it did not germinate either. SAVE YOUR MONEY!! THIS DOES NOT GERMINATE!! I wrote to this seed company asking for another 3lb bag of seed and they never acknowledged my request. Save Your Money

I have experienced very hit or miss results from this seed. I have purchased several times over the past 2 years and it seems that each bag produces differently, some not at all. When you get a good bag the results are wonderful - quick to sprout and grows to a thick and lush cover. However, I have gotten bags that had almost zero growth and I had one bag that sprouted quickly, filled in nicely, then totally died off in a matter of weeks. I am using this seed for both overseeding and for bare spots in Southern PA. I have noticed that this seed likes VERY wet conditions to get started, think mushy or even muddy soil conditions. I am giving this seed one more chance for aerating and overseeding this Fall. If I don't see a remarkable improvement next Spring I will have to switch to another product. This seed is way too expensive for the unpredictable results I have seen so far.
