Every family needs this book!
Everything about this book is lovely. Laura expertly weaves a story that seems simple at first glance (just a boy taking us through his day) but is actually packed full of truths that are important for any person, no matter their age, to know. Like me has also been such a good starter for conversations about disabilities for me and my children. May we all remember that God made us, God loves us, and God is kind to us.P.S. the drawings are so charming as well!

Beautiful book
This book is beautiful and has a message we all need. When we encounter others who are different from ourselves, how can we turn and find sameness? How is this person a little bit like me? Maybe we will make a new friend, unexpectedly? It explains all of this in a way that is easy to understand and see with wonderful illustrations on every page. It will move you from seeing differences to having compassion and seeking friendship.Parents would benefit from reading this to their kids, and kids would take great benefit from the message. But truly, Like Me is a beautiful book for all people.Buy one for yourself, another for a friend, and request it from your library.

A book about Disability and the Divine Worth of Souls
The artwork in this book is what completely won me over. It looks like the sort of book you can snuggle up to read with the kids. It’s absolutely precious, a little folksy and sweet. The book follows two brothers in their daily routine. The younger brother has a global disability, uses a walker, leg braces, and communicates with clapping and dancing and sounds rather than words. As we follow the two brothers, the elder narrates and gives us a little information about their life and disability. Interwoven beautifully is the message that each person is unique, created by God, and is a privilege to know and love.I think it’s important to mention that this is a STORY. A lot of books about disability or medical equipment are more like lists or ABCs. They are good alternatives to help teach your children, but they don’t offer the same “snuggle read” factor that this one does. Your kids will still see wheel chairs and braces and seeing eye dogs and talk about therapy and ALL the things, but the exposure will feel a lot more natural. Every page is filled with a gentle love that you will want to read over and over again.

Very Relatable for kids
Other than the snow this is our life. My 5 year old is just like the older brother and he loves seeing our life in a story. It’s a beautiful display of a typical day in a medical family

A Beautiful Picture of Ordinary Life with Extroadinary Children
If you are a mom like me with a child that has a disability, seeing literature like this available for purchase brings much joy and delight. I couldn't even read the book out loud without crying. It took me a while to get through it as my oldest son replied, "mom, I think this book was written for our family." I have two sons and one daughter. It was a strange feeling to see the story and read it the day of therapy for us on a wednesday! The crib, the orthotics, the high chair, the special sled. Wow! It really depicted simliarities to our sweet family. Thank you for writing this. I am excited to share it with friends and family members. Its a treasure to have this in our family book library. Beautiful pictures, beautiful wording, sweet reminders of faithfulness to the one true God, Jesus Christ, written for extroadinary children (for we are all created in God's image and therefore are all extroadinary). Thank you for your time and effort. I hope it bears much fruit.

a MUST-ADD to your child's bookshelf!
This is SUCH an incredible book! The storyline is sweet and engaging, the illustrations are captivating, and the message is absolutely crucial. As a young mom with children whose friends have disabilities, this book provided such a gentle space to begin having more intentional conversations about loving people different from us in a variety of ways. This can be a source of anxiety for parents who want to teach their children how everyone is made in God's image because sometimes kids ask questions we don't have answers for. Laura has written an amazing book that kiddos will love and parents will be able to use as a helpful tool. DEFIINITELY add this to your child's bookshelf!

Buy this book! It is engaging, educational, and respectful
If you have children in your life, consider adding this beautiful new picture book to your library, Like Me, A Story About Disability and Discovering God’s Image in Every Person by Laura Wifler and illustrated by Skylar White. From the perspective of the older brother, the story shows a typical day with a sibling with disabilities. Children and their parents will learn about therapy, adaptive equipment, inclusion, and how every person is made in the image of God. The therapy clinic pictures remind me if our own clinic. After reading this book, my daughter who has disabilities said, “I wish there were more books like this!“The whimsical, detailed illustrations are inclusive of both disability and ethnicity, and the text communicates an important message: “God made you, God loves you, God is kind to you.”

Beautiful Story!
This is a fantastic picture book for any family with kids. It normalizes things like stemming, adaptive gear, and therapies that are part of life for families who have a child with special needs. Everyone needs this book. If your child doesn’t have a friend yet with similarities to the characters in “like me” this will help prepare them for the day they encounter someone who does. This book is a great place to start conversations with kids about the different abilities and needs of people. Kids often have questions that may surprise you and “Like Me” can help give you words to answer them. I believe families who have a child with special needs will feel understood by Laura Wifler in this book. I can’t wait to see what she writes next!
