No Backward Step
Mortis walks, and the defenders of the Imperium rise to meet them. Witness the beginning of the end, as the Warp seeks to crack open the defenses of the Praetorian, while Ollanius and Grammaticus near the completion of their journeys through time and space. Horus’ victory seems assured, but what might the sons of the Lion accomplish to buy the defenders just a little more time? On the front lines, facing down gods and monsters, lonely men and women fight and die, giving in to despair...or, somehow, finding faith to carry on.I’m giving this one 5 out of 5 smoking bolt rounds. Excellent work from John French!

Amazing, reads just like the other books in the series and that's a good thing.
I feel like you can't really tell much of a difference between the authors styles in this series, which I like because all of the books are written perfectly in my opinion. At most difference, it's like reading the different versions of the gospels in the bible. That is the way I feel when reading these books, if you a true diehard warhammer 40k fan this series in about what started it all. Would not recommend reading until you've read the earlier books though, at least in the siege of terra series. One of my favorite all time books series.

On the traitors march...
A good addition to the series, but my least favorite so far. I did find myself enjoying the "cabal" storyline, with John and Oll, for the first time in this long saga. There's a lot of loss and heartbreak, and the 3rd legion has cooked up some nasty fates for the populace. At times it feels like a hard slaugh through unforgiving lands with a heavy pack on your back, but there are some bright points. There is a lot of towering bipedal warfare as the remnants of the god machines of both sides walk to war. I was waiting on this book, and I wasn't disappointed. A good entry, a hard one to write I imagine. There are some amazing surprises regarding the siege that I cannot spoil, and all told I enjoyed it. The audiobook is amazing, as always. I have a lot of driving to to with my job, and a good audiobook with a great performance eases the burden. Unto the next, dear friends!

A complex story but brilliantly unfolds
This book brings together a multitude of characters and their journey towards the war. I struggled to stop after each chapter as the intensity if the script required momentum and continuity. You will get into the hearts and mind of the characters as the plot unfolds. Have fun reading.

Good book
Been with this series since the beginning of the Horus Heresy. So many years ago now, but still reading and going strong. I can’t wait for the next book to come out!

All over the place...
I wanted to love this book. I would settle for liking it, but the book felt like the author had quite a few good ideas, but not the skill to pull them off. So much time and effort on side parts of the story, then a few lines summarizing other major events. The insight into Chaos and Imperial Leadership from book 1 just not there.Abnet’s Titanticus (the gold standard for Titan combat) isn’t matched by this Author; it seems to share faults with many of the more mediocre 40k novels: Elite Imperial forces acting like morons and getting butchered.… With Chaos super weapons appearing to force the plot along....One small example: Horus has 1000s of warships above firing continuously at the Palace void shields, then a bunch of Imperial forces walk 50km or more from the walls and void shield cover. Why not simply vaporize them all from space, then walk over their remains to the wall? When done right, only a little suspension of disbelief is required (Siege books 2 and 4 I think are the best examples of this). In the end, it was ... just ok.All that said, I’ll happily purchase and read the 6th book....

A little slow at the begginig but boy he delivers from the 50% onwards. Great stories, very well told... Great cliff hangers at the end... Already wanting to craving the following books!

Titanenschlacht

John French is the worst HH author
Are you looking for a book where paragraphs take up entire chapters? Are you looking for every irrelevant detail to be over described as you forget the actual event or action that occurred as it slips into memory, myth and time? A disconnected narrative so up its own arse I should be demanding a refund? Are you someone who hates the vonnegut style of "every sentence must have a purpose - advance action or reveal character?"This is the book for you.Every John French novel has been a huge miss and takes opportunity from decent authors to contribute to this series. It's like they chose David Schwimmer to direct Lord Of The Rings.
