NCE Practice Questions: NCE Practice Tests and Exam Review for the National Counselor Examination

Appears to be a good study guide, but I no longer needed it so I returned it.

This book worked wonderfully to gauge my readiness for the exam. I found the questions were similar to the actual exam and my score on the practice exams were close to my actual exam results. The book contains two practice tests. Each practice test has 200 questions. The answers with simple explanations were given at end of each practice test.

I have been using other study guides and sources for months, but decided to purchase this for the practice tests. So far I have only skimmed through some of the questions and answers. What I have noticed so far:1. An answer was incorrect (the description of the answer was correct, but the actual answer was incorrect. Think it may have been a typo.2. Speaking of typos, there have been several, including repeated choice answers for a question.3. The language is simple and tests the very basic concepts and information. If you are just starting out studying for the NCE, this may be a good guide to test what basic concepts you know and don't know. You can then study the basic concepts more in depth.4. The guide does offer explanation for why an answer is correct, which can be helpful if you are unsure or confused.Overall, I don't feel like it's a waste of money if you don't rely solely on this for studying. I have been using Dr. Rosenthal's Encyclopedia of Counseling, as well as his audio, which I have found to be VERY helpful so far. He gives explanations for all the correct answers, as well as reasons why other choices are not correct. The audio offers an overview of all the content areas and is like a mini-review of my grad degree.My suggestion: Use as many practice tests and study guides as possible because they can offer insight as to the content and material that will be on the exam.*Side note: I have yet to take the exam. I will be taking it on 4/18/15, so after I take the exam I will edit my review and comment on the material on the exam versus the material in the study guide.

I appreciate how straight forward this book is and it’s easy to follow. I also like the explanations to each answer without it being so overwhelming nor too wordy. there are a couple questions that in the explanation would confuse me compared to what the actual answer would it. The explanation would make it sound like it’s another answer than what it’s stating to be but overall it’s a good practice tool.

I think this book is great. I love the long explanations behind the answers, and I like that these questions mirror the format that I can expect on the test. I just wish there was an answer sheet included like bubbles shown on the outside of the book, but that doesn't make the book less effective. That's just personal preference.

I believe that this test preparation book is fantastic. The layout of the text is easy to follow and the practice tests can be used over and over again to study. This book met all the needs for my preparation for this test by mirroring the actual test making it easy for me to organize my additional study materials before attempting these practices tests. I found the questions thought provoking and arranged in an easy to understand fashion so the information in the questions was easy to take in.

I Use this as a study guide to take the comps exit exam after 2 prevous failed attempts using other guides and I pass. This was helpful, i spend about 3days studying this menual prior to the exam. Doing the practice test at back of the guide was helpful and i believe was the key factor for me. I review the answers that was wrong at the end of the study test and read over the explaination given for the right answer and this came in Very helpful to me during the actually exam. I plan on using this same study guide for my National Licence Exam in the spring of 2018.

I have taken a few other practice tests and this was right up there with them. I also appreciated the feedback in the back of the book to help understand the answers.
