Solid steel if you need it in a pinch
Nice flat sheet of steel. Size was a bit difficult to deal with until I bought an angle grinder but this was the only option that would have arrived soon enough (had prime shipping) I am new to knifemaking (bar stick removal) and I this to make my first two knives and still have some steel left over that I’ll use at a later date. Despite being a beginner the knives hardened up well in warm peanut oil (faster oils like canola or parks 50 supposively work better btw)After a short subcritical soak and quench from orangish red. Based on the feel while sharpening the large one turned out around 60 hrc and the small one around 62-63. Both take a nice edge and hold it decently well. I have a lot to learn but I don’t think you’ll be disappointed by this product

Hey it's hard to hate
It's good steel. I've been making knives full time (dabeachyknives.com) and it's served me through many awesome pieces. Is it the best out there to work with? probably not, but it turns out a dang knife

Great forge steel for knives
This is my new favorite steel for knife making. Hardens very easily with oil quench and tempered in my kitchen oven. Produced a very good edge after stone sharpening. I like mine on the rustic side.

Best value I've come across on for an online source
Best value I've come across on for an online source, hardened nicely. This is a huge amount of steel! For those who don't know what annealed means, it means not hardened, it's soft!!! So far was able to make 4 somewhat large knives out of it and I'm not even half way through the billet. However, they could have really included a spec sheet.

Real deal
Good stuff. Back for more. Gets hard. Tempers well.I was scratching a glass bottle with this after quenching red hot in peanut oil at 140F. Tempers very well. Could bend/flex and spring right back.Edit : after a few years of using this stuff I will say I've noticed the edge is plasma cut and hardened right on the edge sometimes. I used the very edge as the spine of a blade and went to file in some jimping with a checkering file and it absolutely would not cut it the edge was very hard.Another downside to this steel which is why I might stop buying at this point is it seems inconsistent. Sometimes it works good but then another time I'll get a plate that sucks and just WILL not harden and a whole batch/ weeks worth of work down the drain.

Large inclusions
Large inclusions in the stock steel that caused massive cracks when heat treated.

As described, will buy again
This is one big ol chunk of steel. It is thicker than I prefer to use for knife making but the price was right so I made some beefy ones! While I have no way to say this is for sure 1095, it does harden quite nicely, heat treats at home with no issues, and made some pretty looking blades. I'd probably go for 1/8 in the future, but it's fun to make some chunky knives.

Seems all good and it arrived quickly, I haven't heat treated it but dont expect any issues.
