Size matters....
Upon looking at the stock photos, there is a photo of the size next to lemons, that being said, it still doesn’t really do justice for how small this candle really is. I’d heard great things about Homesick and decided to splurge and try it out. The scent is on point, it truly is fantastic, but I was sincerely hoping I would be getting something that would last longer for almost $30.

Five Stars
Spent 27 years in Southern California, currently living in central Illinois and this definitely reminds me of home.

Burn your money instead
Marketing and packaging make these candles feel like they are simple yet sophisticated quality. But after buying 2 (I didn't want to leave a review from just 1 experience) and having the same experience, I've realized this is just like any other candle company. Smells great when you smell the candle itself, but while burning, initially it gives off the smell, but as the wax is melting, there is barely any smell floating around in the air.I actually read the instructions twice to make sure I was following the manufacturer's recommended method, but it all yielded the same result. The misses was furious that I spent $30 on bogus candles. She literally said to me, just light our money on fire instead, hence the headline above =/

Overpowering jasmine smell
This was not a all what I expected. It did not smell like Southern California to me, only a very overpowering and sickly sweet jasmine smell. I could not smell any lemon or ocean scent at all. Definitely not worth it.

Smells good, but looks awful
It's an overall nice candle and has a general floral scent... smells good, very subtle, but nothing really special. Initially, it looks super nice with the clean branding and simple glass jar, but the wick is not great quality at all, and it burns fine, but looks awful after burning for a bit. See photos. Won't be buying this again. I guess it's alright for a gift, but nothing special. Overpriced for sure, and seems more like a branding/marketing project than much else.

Beautifully presented but don't love the scent
I've tried two Homesick candles — Seattle and Southern California — and I didn't care for the scent of either. I disliked the Seattle scent so much I sent it back. I begrudgingly kept Southern California. The presentation is beautiful and they burn pretty evenly if you make sure you burn them at least four hours every session (or enough to develop an even layer of melted wax on the top). Both scents I've tried have been a bit too overpowering, smelling of perfume and other artificial notes. I prefer clean, natural scents like citrus and sandalwood. The candle labels don't list the scents so you'll have to return to the website to remember what it's supposed to smell like. This candle doesn't have any hints of lemon or orange. Jasmine is all that comes through, but not the pleasant scent of jasmine in the wild, but rather an artificial and overpowering perfume-like scent. I kept it but won't buy anymore Homesick candles. Two strikes and you're out.. they aren't cheap either.

Not What I Expected
Update: it wouldn’t burn. Finally held it sideways a bit while lighting and it lit for a few seconds. It’s burning a straight hole and leaving most of the candle.Original Post: I live on the east coast but love visiting Southern California every year so I bought this candle for my home. Unfortunately it doesn’t smell as advertised. I think the candle quality and all is fine but the scent should be described as a straight floral/perfume scent. It smells like an older women’s perfume which I know a lot of people do like but I was expecting something citrus due to orange and zesty lemon being the first notes listed. The product came in fine and if you have smelled it before, you shouldn’t be disappointed but if you’re expecting a beach citrus vibe. This isn’t it. I plan on burning it quickly and replacing the wax with succulents so it wasn’t a loss for me but It could be for someone else.

Good gift idea, but wouldn’t buy it again.
Unique gift idea for someone from a different state. He couldn’t say yes or no on if it reminded him of Southern California..but that’s a very diverse area so that could be a factor, hints of citrus for sure.I am curious what other states smell like- but most likely won’t find find out -👃Smelled nice. Not super strong, scent doesn’t fill a room.💸I think the price point is a little high...but obviously I spent the money.🔥Not a huge fan of feeling like I could have had a fire situation - just now after seeing the reviews ...this candle may need a re-design.
