A Beautiful Love Story
This is a charming love story of a brave woman who goes off to war during WW1 as a nurse. She must fight not only survival as a nurse but the class system that prevailed during that time. Her great granddaughter goes to England to claim an inheritance and to learn of her family’s history. Well written and going from the 1920s to present day pulled the story together.

The story of Audrey - present day who was left a cottage by her grandmother
And Emilie - World War One era. Dorothy, the grandmother, is the daughter of Lady Emilie Dawes. Emilie does not wish to be given away by her parents in marriage, their choice was Lord Rhys her brother’s best friend, as was typical in that day and age. She wishes to be independent and be the ruler of her own life. When she is at a ball she meets and becomes intrigued by Isaac Thurston, the bastard son of a deceased local lord. When all the men she is close to, Rhys, Isaac, and her brother Fletcher, sign up and go to war, Emilie finds a way to run away and become a volunteer medical aid in France. The book is told in alternating views of Audrey and Emilie, which I know some people don’t like. I enjoyed the book, and would read more b6 this author.

Fast read
I enjoyed the lightness of this book. Nothing heavy, but sadly predictable. I read this between my WWII books so it cleansed my palette. This book should be read while tanning on a beach...a summer read.

Highlighting a truly sad time in history.
My grandfather was a soldier in WW1 but never said anything about it us. He was older when I was growing up and not very verbal. I do remember at one time having his gas mask and uniform. I did not realize how much information was talked about in this story. I was enthralled by everything in this book. It has made me want to research more about this period. Thank you for giving me a well written story and a true book ending I did not see coming.

Moving book
I really enjoyed this glimpse of life during WWI. Many attitudes of the time are very difficult to read of but are definitely worth thevtimevspent.

heart rending
WWI is a nice shift from some WWII books that are seeming all the same now, and I loved this one. A titled lady, the horrors of World War I, and her courage to go on with her nursing and her family life. I enjoyed her story very much, even with the prologue giving away the ending. And the modern counterpart added layers. I am looking for more from this author! Recommended.
