Fantastic-but only for the right person.
This product has gotten some bad reviews, and its price has dropped dramatically, so I ordered and tested it myself. It is a very capable product, but only for the right person. Am I the right person? Yes... let me tell you more and a bit more about me. This will help you determine if such a gadget is right for you.I love machines that do multiple things, including cooking gadgets. When I get something new, I try to learn everything about it, including all of its capabilities. I have done this with everything from food processors to pressure cookers. In the 1970s, the price of microwave ovens finally came down enough for the average person to own one. I bought one and learned how to cook just about everything in it. Poached eggs and sauces. Fish and chicken. Cakes, muffins, and even yeast bread. It was possible to make just about anything in the microwave, but some things were easier or better made in more traditional ways.As silly as my obsession was, I became familiar with getting the most out of the appliance. That came in handy when I divorced in the 1980s and moved into a basement "apartment" with a pretty underwhelming kitchen. Money was very tight, and I had to make most of my meals and relied on my microwaving skills in the three years I lived there.I had to invest in understanding the technology before I could reap the benefits of the gadget. The same could be said of my experiences with a pressure cooker, a food processor, and even a Dutch oven. When I started to use them, I sucked but got better over time. It wasn't the fault of the appliance; it was my error. Any different device (including this one) will require time, practice, and some failure. So what is this machine? Imagine a lonely blender who meets and falls in love with a food processor. Despite parental objections, they marry and have a child. That child would be this gadget. It blends and emulsifies like a blender and chops and grinds like a food processor. But wait, there's more! The base heats, so it acts like a saucepan, and the blade can turn slowly and in reverse to automatically stir the saucepan's contents. Now that's pretty cool. But wait, there is more! It also has a built-in scale, so you can pour contents in without messing around with measuring cups. But wait, there's more! It also comes with several accessories to easily make rice, steam an entire meal, or whisk up some egg whites or whipping cream. But wait, there's more! It has several built-in programs, including one that kneads bread dough right in the machine to easily make dinner rolls or pizza dough. In other words, it does take the place of a bunch of your appliances, and it can do some things (like making sauces) almost automatically. Add the ingredients, press a few buttons, and return to a nice bechamel sauce. The gadget comes with a hardcover recipe booklet that will give you an idea of how to use it. Expect to practice before you see its benefits. There is an app, but its description sounded like it just c controlled the machine remotely. I didn't test the app.I'm familiar with these types of multi-cookers, so I tested out a number of its functions. It chopped and pureed easily. Temperature control seemed good, but it took slightly longer to reach temperature than other devices I have used. If you borrow a recipe from another manufacturer (like Thermomix), you may need to add a minute or two when you do shorter cooking times. The kneading function worked well (400 gm flour limit). Steaming rice was a breeze. The unit has a timer that can be set for up to 90 minutes, and the maximum cooking temperature is 130 C (~270F).If you want to compare it to the famous Thermomix, it is similar to one of the older models (TM31), which was more manual in operation than the latest unit. Newer models have many built-in recipes, can reach higher temperatures (160 C), include more programmed functions, and allow you to buy add-ons to enhance your cooking experience. Thermomix will also handhold you more as you buy Thermomix units directly from a "consultant." However, this unit will do many of the same basic things at a fraction of the cost and could be a good way to determine if you are into this type of robot cooking.I think of it as a sauce-making machine, a chopping machine, a blender, and a dessert-making machine (rice pudding, creme brulee, etc.). However, it can do so much more than that. However, you must be willing to spend some time and make some of the included recipes. Lastly, although you can get this machine to do a lot, some things are easier to do more traditionally. For instance, you can make a box muffin mix with this gadget, but mixing one up with a bowl and spoon is faster and easier. Bon appetite!

Interesante

Got it on sale— best deal for $99!
There was a Black Friday deal for this and I was one of the few lucky ones to grab one for $99. For the price this thing is amazing but only if you know how to use it or if you’re a kitchen gadget nerd. I’ve used it for soups, emulsions, steaming, cookies, bread, bagels and more. I’ll say when making something like bagels, the knead function is basically only useful for one batch. I tried two batches of bagels and I got an error code when I was almost done kneading the second batch. Maybe give it a rest in between batches. My greatest complaint is that it takes up too much counter space. It’s pretty easy to clean since the bowl and accessories are dishwasher safe. I just have to keep the whole thing on my counter at all times which is a little annoying. You can download an app for some meh recipes, and be able to control it from the app (again, meh). But I find that a lot of the recipes on the Cookidoo website for Thermomix are compatible. You just have to do a little gadget to gadget translating. They call their steam tray the Varoma tray for instance but it’s really just the steam tray on this gadget. The scale can be either metric or imperial but anything under 100g is going to be wildly inaccurate or unmeasurable by the scale so I recommend keeping a small scale handy for these things.
