Well-built power strip with solid protection and convenient layout
This GE surge protector feels sturdy and reliable. The outlets grip firmly, and the overall build quality is noticeably better than average. The layout is well thought out, with enough spacing between outlets for most plugs and adapters. It handles multiple devices at once without overheating, and the flat plug makes it easy to place behind furniture or tight spaces. The cord is thick and flexible, with a good length for home office or media setups. The switch and indicator light work as expected. It’s rated well for everyday electronics, and performance has been consistent. One thing to keep in mind is the plug orientation — depending on how your chargers are shaped, some can block neighboring outlets. Once arranged properly, though, it’s a solid and dependable surge protector that’s built to last.

Short extension cord serves its purpose and easy to hide
The 5 inch extension cord was perfect for an area in my kitchen where I was trying to hide the thick cords from my espresso machine, coffee grinder, and mild frother. The extension cord only extends out of the plug in one direction, so I actually had to turn my electrical receptacle 180 degrees so the cord, when plugged in, would extend down, instead of up. I was able to neatly tie the 3 plugs after plugging them in and hiding them behind a couple canisters. I'm very pleased with the results!

Does the job.
Be aware that while the GE brand is on this item, General Electric has nothing to do with it. They sold that business to the people who make, or at least sell, these. This is not a reflection on their quality, it is just the way things are these days. Be further aware that the wire is 16 gauge. This is NOT shown on Amazon. It is NOT shown ON THE BOX. But the bit of paper IN the box does reveal it, if you look for it hard enough. The next heavier gauge, 14, is what most houses have in their walls for most lights and outlets, but 14 gauge for an extension cord is heavy and expensive. These, at 16 gauge, are fine for everything I want them for. I bought two, 15 foot each. They come tightly wound up in their boxes. I was concerned that being so tightly would they would remain showing that shape forever. I was VERY pleased that when I stretched them out they lay straight, not curling back up at all. Finally, when I just read the review that was at the top of the list it called this a surge protector. IT IS NOT A SURGE PROTECTOR. The product description is correct - makes no mention of protection - but that review should be removed.

great
5 stars for the fact that this is a great product. Unfortunately Amazon is getting terribly bad at delivering anything on time!

Good Temporary Use, DO NOT Use as Permanent Wiring (NEC Violation)
Convenient flat plug and braided cord, functions perfectly for what it is designed to do: provide a short-term, temporary extension of an existing outlet. The Violation All Consumers Must Know: Advise you that using this (or any flexible corded power strip) permanently is a direct violation of safety code and creates a long-term fire hazard, one that an insurance company will deny a fire claim. The National Electrical Code (NEC) the safety standard followed by all fire and building departments, strictly prohibits the use of flexible cords (which includes this power strip's cord) as a substitute for permanent wiring in a home (NEC Article 400.8). The Risk: Flexible cords are not designed to withstand years of continuous, static load. Their insulation is softer and more prone to gradual degradation and overheating when left permanently plugged in, which is a leading cause of residential electrical fires. Liability: In the event of an electrical fire, an insurance investigator may deny a claim if they determine the cause was a permanent setup using equipment rated only for temporary use. If you need a permanent, continuous power source for your stationary, low-power devices, you should use a product that eliminates the flexible cord: Compliant Alternative: Instead of this corded strip, use a Wall-Mounted Surge Protector/Tap that plugs directly into and screws into the wall outlet. Because it has no flexible cord, it is 100% compliant and safe for permanent, year-round use to power your low-draw electronics.
