Fun activity
The sand box has a light underneath which lights up the surface and allows you to see the sand "painting." This is a simple but fun toy for children. It's easy to create and draw and then erase and begin all over. Sand is included with the kit.I recently saw a video how one mom made "sand" out of Cherrios in her blender. A great idea if you need more sand or don't like the one provided.I also couldn't help notice that this could double as a tracing box. I tried it and it works great for this.

Don’t use for sand
I love this light table, for transparent letters & numbers and shapes. Which is what I bought it for. But we tried the sand and the table isn’t deep enough it just creates a mess.

Good idea, needs lots of improvements
After watching Kesinya Seminova do sand art on americas got talent last season, my little girl was enthralled. She wanted to try it too. When I saw this, I was super excited to get it for her. She was equally as excited to get it. Then came the day we tried it out. Let’s look at the positives:1) kids will love making designs and pictures in the sand, this is a great idea for a creative activityNow the things that need improvement:1) the card that comes with it, with the QR code that is supposed to take you to the training video-it takes you to a deactivated Instagram page. No video. Not very professional nor helpful.2) it makes a mess. Everywhere. Even if your child manages not to get sand outside the tray, the sand sticks to everything-the tray, the utensils, the dustpan. You have to wash everything off when you’re done if you want to get all the traces of sand off. The bag isn’t even wide enough to slide the dustpan into when cleaning up, so you end up dumping half the sand back onto the tray instead of into the bag.3) the lid should come off for easy cleaning. The lid should also come off so you can store all the pieces inside. Or it should come with another lid to cover the tray so that you don’t have to clean the sand off it every time. That would be great.4)the tray itself is very light, feels like thin plastic and the dustpan and broom feel very cheap too. And the broom does not work very well. You can see in my last photo what the tray looked like after using the broom. It almost looks like another design tool.I’m not sure I would recommend this item-especially at this cost- unless some improvements are made. For the quality of what this is, it should be about half the cost.

Great Sand and Light Table!
This is not the highest quality sand and light table one could possibly find, but it works well and comes with everything you need to get started!Sand can be messy, but this provides a meditative play space for kids or adults. I find that after my daughter is done playing, I'm drawn to the table for a little sensory art time! Add an audiobook, and you've really got a moment of zen!I'd definitely recommend this if you're looking for a light box to use for sand art or other crafting activities. Enjoy!

Outside only toy.
I have a pretty firm line about sand toys in the house and this sand painting box is no exception. I like to do plastic tub "sandboxes" for my kids and store sand toys, kinetic sand, and shells in a giant plastic tub for the kids to drag out of the garage. I thought this sand painting box would fit nicely into another tub and add to our beachy collection. It's... ok. I'll keep it in a shallow plastic bin because there is no other way to store the sand and tools for this box! Basically, I'll have it always in an open box because otherwise the sand will get everywhere. My kids can use it in the garage so they can still plug it in, but the light effects will be a little lessened because of that. Their designs are ok-they lost interest pretty quickly (the youngest is 7). This could be simple enough for preschoolers if they are working on writing numbers, letters, their names, simple words... but that's about it. Beyond trying to write a few letters, a preschooler is just going to make a huge mess of the sand, which is fine-you just have to be prepared for it. The tools will all stay in our plastic tub for easy storage but again, this toy doesn't come with any storage options-not even for the sand. There is no tray on top to snap in place to keep the sand in. As other reviewers have mentioned, that would make this much easier to store. If you're someone who is happy to embrace the mess, this toy could be an entertaining and valuable sensory tool for your kid.

A bit let down
The photos in the description make this item seem a bit more cool than it really is. Most of the time you won’t have your little one working on this in the dark which is where the drawing can look the best. Also I would like to mention that the border that stops the sand from spilling over isn’t as high as I would want it to be so it is rather easy to over spill and drop some of the sand.

Relaxing but Very Messy
The lighting box itself feels very cheap. Like the plastic you feel when you grab a kid’s sand bucket. I supposed that’s because this IS meant for children but even so I expected somewhat better equality. The sand itself works, just be careful not to spill it everywhere. Cleaning up is also a chore. I think the idea is good but execution of this product needs work
